Perhaps this will allow it to reunite with South Korea under the SK gov't.
Then it's a lie. Everything Fox News says is a lie.

No. He's not. North Korea is a single-party democracy.

Also, I'm kinda offended by all these fat jokes. Why is it still alright to make fun of people for being overweight?

North Korea is not even close to a democracy.

Do you actually believe the propaganda they spout?

I doubt SK would like that. Having to suddenly supply and look after 24 million impoverished people would be really expensive. It's likely SK would keep it independent till it is stable enough to be absorbed into SK.

Sounds like a propaganda story to me; slightly amazed that people are so quick to accept it as true.

The most recent pictures of Kim don't make him out to look that fat. He may be pushing the mid 200's but that not enough strain on the ankles to break them. Unless he's been photoshopped and somehow the North Koreans actually got a good photoshopist to do so and he's actually like 850 then I could believe it but usually you get to fat to walk before you break your ankles from being fat.

Kim Jong-Un is so fat, he had his name legally changed to Kim Jong-Deux. 8)

Yea that's one of the glaring problems of Korean Unification. NK is so underdeveloped and poor it would bankrupt SK. I do not think they will unite any time soon.

But NK had so much potential that was restrained by Juche. They have great natural resources, and a unified Korea would become an economic powerhouse in Asia.

Inner circles believe China doesn't want competition in the regional market - having already to challenge economically powerful Japan and South Korea.

But only after years of basically nation-building and Iraq has shown that that can be both an expensive and bloody affair. They also would have to undo the brainwashing of about 25 million people.

Juche is about a third of the problem.
You also have economic sanctions and incompetent leadership. The economic sanctions alone are probably most of the reason why North Korea couldn't muster the money or investment from foreigners, particularly Russia and China, to exploit its natural resources. It is literally a potential goldmine.

The problem with that is that South Korea does not recognize the legitimacy of the North Korean government, and claims governance over all of Korea. It even has governors for the northern regions.

South Korea wouldn't keep the north independent. If anything, it'd probably just create some temporary restrictions (such as preventing South Korean businesses from dominating the north, and preventing a massive downpour of North Koreans into the south) until things become more equalized.

Ahh, I admit my knowledge of the peninsula is rather limited, so that does seem like the most likely course.

I did think to myself after I posted that "Wait, South Korea claims North Korea...)

I'm 99% sure North Korea also claims the peninsula, and has brainwashed its population.
Being governed by Seoul might create unrest if they were to be outright annexed. I think a puppet government is the appropriate choice, and one Seoul would take, before reunification - just like Vietnam.
