Well, it somewhat does. The universe after all does not seem very loving and welcoming. Nor does nature when you really take a good look at it. It definately does not seem designed for us.
Certain images of God are somewhat incompatible with that reality.

Just because it doesn't seem designed for us, doesn't mean that there isn't some sort of a deity. Sure certain ideas about such a deity may be wrong, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

As I see it (provided the existence of the instance in question), God would all be toying with us. If he is all powerful, controls everything, omnipotent, and all knowing, it would be impossible for God to simply just observe his creations. It would be responsible for every last thing in the universe. Every disease and famine, every last cold-hearted murderer, and every single fiber of evil and hatred in this universe would fall on the shoulders of God. Furthermore, with the possibility of alien life, God is also doing the same thing to those other races. I can't see that to be love in any way. I'm sorry, I can't believe in such a personal god that the main monotheist religions advocate. Now, I don't completely deny the existence of a "more powerful" force. I merely fail to accept an all powerful force.
