Which, sadly, reduces the chances of a giant lizard arising from Tokyo Bay to exact his revenge. At least it would give the marathon runners something to run from.

If human rights were an issue, China wouldn't have hosted the 2008 Olympics. I don't see why Azerbaijan shouldn't be considered for a future games if even Nazi Germany was able to get an Olympic games. Realistically speaking, it is mostly a question of money or prestige to get the IOC even interested in a location.

I was rooting for it mainly because I wanted to see a smaller nation get to host. It does need to improve but that doesn't mean it should instantly be counted out. Japan is just so, blah.

What? That's exactly what it means! Letting an abusive, corrupt government host the Olympics is practically an endorsement of their behavior. That's why Sochi shouldn't have hosted either.

Enjoy your new Internet service in the cave.

I'm glad that Tokyo has it.

For that matter why is Scientific States opposed for authoritarian governments with human rights abused hosting the Olympic game yet doesn't seem opposed to them participating in the games themselves. It not like there isn't a mechanism barring nations from competing in the Olympic games. South Africa was prohibited from competing for decades because of apartheid.

To be honest, the Olympics should try out hosting the games in the middle of nowhere, it would give them more flexibility to build and stuff. WAIT MOUNT FUJI OLYMPICS 2020. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

It's not, they are about to start up some reactors again and all reactors are going through a process of making them safer against earthquakes. It plans to make Nuclear the heart of Japanese energy production.
