Whilst I'm sure there are many people more well versed in American Constitutional law than myself I don't see how it contradicts the constitution. The use of "Under God" in the constitution does not mean you don't have a separation of church and state or you don't live in a secular society - secularism of course is not the same as state atheism. God also needn't refer to a Christian god or even a Deist god like entity; God could be understood as an entirely different concept such as the personification of Goodness and Wisdom. I'm not a believer but still talk about God in a humanist sense.

If we're talking about "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, that was added in the 1950s to thumb our noses at the Godless Commies in Russia and, given that the majority of Americans then and now identify as Christians, it certainly does put the government in the position of advocating one religion over others. Granted, it's a minor point, but the Pledge was not written with the phrase in it. I'm not altogether happy with "In God We Trust" as the motto of the country, either, though I don't see either as being anything I'm going to be storming the halls of Congress over.
