Obama and the last ten presidents have done impeachable stuff, but it's nigh impossible to impeach Presidents these days.

It's certainly tricky to impeach people when their impeachable offences aren't actually impeachable.

Trust me, the reason the impeachment movements never get off the ground outside Nixon and that is because Nixon both committed a deliberate conspiracy to cover up a burglary and had become unpopular within his own party to the point he could be impeached. The bolded is needed to get impeachment proceedings to make it through the Senate.

Why don't the Americans introduce votes of no confidence like most of the rest of the world? Then they might be able to get a President who has the support of Congress for a change.

There's also the small detail that Congress has much less popular support than the president does.

I think it is. They've been going off on birther conspiracy theories and talking about impeachment ever since Obama was elected. There was no legitimate reason for the birthers to question Obama's citizenship, there was no legitimate reason for all the paranoid "death panel" rhetoric during the debate over Obamacare, and there is no legitimate reason why he should be impeached. There's no reason to think that after 6 years of this shit the people behind it have suddenly stopped being racist.

The idea would not be to impeach and remove, but to impeach and impugn: In essence to make impeachment the fate of every Democratic President from now on regardless of the quality of the charges leveled, in order to establish a presumption of malfeasance in office in the minds of voters - a sort of Pavlovian association of the words "Democrat" and "criminal".

Which only floats in the right wing echo chamber, which would automatically ignore that Clinton was not actually convicted (and that were Obama to be impeached he would likely not be convicted either).
