If you can't shoot a person who comes into your home, steals your possessions and beats you to the ground while they are in a vastly superior physical state, then when can you shoot a person? Should you wait until that person has stolen every item of value in your house? Should you wait until that person has jumped on your wife and torn her shirt off? Should you wait until your house is on fire and your neck has been broken with an especially good kick to the head? I don't think so - if someone comes into your house and attacks you, it's perfectly alright to use deadly force against them.
