If they could grow meat in labs and have it be just as good for you and taste as good, I would stop eating normal animals. Won't happen for a while though, sadly.

It already has happened. It's just a bit more expensive (that can be fixed though) and people think it's icky.

No, because a fruit is not the plant. An apple may grow on a tree, but when you pick the apple, the tree goes on, and nothing is killed, because the apple was never an individual organism.

Killing pigs gives you bacon. Killing children gives you jail time. Not the same.

I've always thought piggies are cute (with their wiggly tails and wittle bitty eyes and round noses) But pigs be tasty. It's the way of life. I say, make pigs feel as kings and queens before they become bacon and pork chops

That reminds me....

*gets shopping list*

"Mmmm.... Bacon. Artery clogging, fatty fatty juicy unhealthy pig-strips..."

*jots down pig-strips on drooled, wet shopping list*

Huh. I guess that works on the same logic that if you cut of someone's finger, they don't die. Still, things like carrots, celery, potatoes, and lettuce are the whole organism. So whatever kind of diet you have, you're still killing stuff to survive. (Unless you somehow survive on just fruit)

Why? Why would you eat something that has caused the suffering of another animal if there was an alternative that was exactly the same, but without anything dying for it?

It's not possible, though. Anything we eat was once a living thing, so to survive, we must kill things. That includes plants and animals, and microorganisms.

Except for pigs being an entirely different species that is never in its lifetime capable of becoming sapient. So no, not comparable at all.

When you're at the store buying a cut of meat, you are not buying that meat, you are buying the suffering that goes into that piece of meat. From the painful toil of the farmer who supplies feed, to the labor of the workers who cut up that animal, you are buying their suffering, and consuming that delicious piece of flesh that you know dozens of people worked their rears to get to that store, with you doing relatively little in comparison.

But no, I'd buy some of that meat out of sheer intrigue.
