However, while I wouldn't have supported American slavery or the disgusting acts that the Americans took against foreigners and Native Americans, they were still fighting monarchy and British encroachment onto their basic rights. The south was attempting to preserve "state rights" as an excuse to violate any possible legislation against slavery.

If it were up to me, it would be the American national flag (simply by better looks). I think that the flag as of its current usage represents pride in southern culture. Hate is used along with the flag, but I dont think they are the same.

Waving a Confederate flag basically means "I support an organization which committed high treason against a democratically elected government resulting in the deaths of millions of Americans all in order to maintain the vile institution of slavery. Go me!"

You can believe in secession on the value that you shouldn't have to be part of a union if you don't want to; regardless of your reason for leaving. If you take the slavery element out of secession, say it was GENUINELY about states rights then you can't argue with them choosing to leave.

It's basically the real confederate flag, with 13 stars (found on the S&B), and the Georgia seal.

I think the average person doesn't realize that's the official CSA flag. The St.Andrew's Cross naval confederate flag gets mistaken for the official one.
