Oh yes. In this country, on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, only four things remain running; gas stations, utility facilities, emergency services and the military.

Apparently people in my community don't celebrate Good Friday because I went to work, went shopping, and nothing was closed. I didn't even remember today was Good Friday.

My wife and I are Christians and try to practice our faith as well as we may, realizing we're far from good at it. But we try.

Today her CEO called her in for an important meeting, at 2:30 P.M.

Was the day and time deliberate? Possibly. Maybe it was a way of rubbing in the point that the CEO could not care less about our values, including societal (political, economic) ones.

...whaat.

Dude, I know what that's like to be called in and asked to work funky hours you don't like. No, it's definitely not her boss targeting her values- he was probably just busy, and that was the best time. You win some major points with The Man by working with his schedule and not resenting it.

[EDIT] I'm serious, by the way... any boss who's worth his salt will absolutely cherish the shit out of workers who can work odd schedules and come in suddenly when needed.

I'm Christian too, but I agree with Vicious Debaters. Your wife's CEO probably didn't mean it like that.

It's an understandable oversight. Sometimes I come here from clicking the 'latest forum topics' in the sidebar and it takes a minute to realize what subforum I'm in.

I'm in a mid-sized midwestern city so it was mostly normal today. Campus was a little quiet but thats any Friday.

Served a lot of people Mexican food today (er yesterday now). Only one sweet old lady mentioned she was being "naughty" for ordering what she had because it was Good Friday. Aren't Christians only supposed to eat fish or something? I dunno. What I think is hilarious is that I have 4/20 off because it's Easter Sunday. I plan on going to downtown Denver and watching all of the people get high in front of the capitol. I would make a killing if I were to sell tacos to everyone there.

Most things were closed until lunch (the metro for example, was closed until 1:00pm); some shops were closed all day.

Then the muezzin's call to prayer sounded out from the mosque minarets around noon, and things started to open up again after the midday prayer.

So about par for the course for an ordinary Friday here in Dubai.

Italy here (majority Christian), and no. Venerdì Santo (Good Friday) is an ordinary workday. Schools, though, are closed from Thursday to Tuesday around Easter.
