No he didn't. Creationism is one of the notable faith positions which not only fails to meet its burden of proof consistently, but has consistently been shown NOT to be true. I have no idea how long ago creationism was first proven to be utterly impossible, but I know Carl Sagan showed its fallibility years back.

Are you telling me that scientific funding doesn't depend on the economy? There are many reasons as to why an astro-physicist could discuss the economy. And I'm Sorry, but discussing the economy Is a hell of a lot more important than discussing the beliefs of loons.

1. The problem is that these "loons" represent a large minority (I believe at least 40%) of the American populace. They elect politicians with similar beliefs that end up defunding programs and agencies like NASA. Something, I think, that Tyson doesn't particularly approve of. For me, it is important to address and disprove the creationists. If only so we get politicians into office that don't believe in this nonsense.

2. Why would he discuss the economy? Tyson isn't an economist.

Creationism was never 'proved' in the first place - you cannot disprove something that has no evidence.

Regardless belief in evolution and God are not mutually exclusive, plenty of people choose both.

I'm telling you that economics is not the topic of his program. If you want to see economics discussions, turn to programs that are about economics. We're taking about a 20 second mention in a larger 40+ minute program that is about light traveling speed, the age of the universe and how viewing space is seeing into the past.

And why doesn't Steven Reich ever talk about the climate?
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

The program was also about blackholes.... perhaps he was hoping one more nail was enough for the coffin to collapse under its own gravity.

Frankly the program is produced by Seth MacFarlane...... everyone should at least be happy that Dr. Tyson doesn't end up in random street brawls with anthropomorphized man sized chickens.

Young earth creationism was disproved ages ago.
Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.

I really wish more people would learn the distinction between Creationism and Young Earth Creationism.

I'm a Creationist who soundly agrees with Tyson in this instance. The mislabeling gets frustrating though.

In order to believe in [Young Earth] Creationism, one must believe that for some reason our universe was created to look as if it was billions of years old, when in fact it isn't. There's absolutely no way around that. Tyson just mentioned one of many reasons why this is so.
