The calendar we use today was developed by people who happened to be religious, but was not based on anything having to do with religion. Calendars are based around how many times the planet goes around the sun. Christian, Muslim, Zalgoist, atheist, none of that affects how long it takes for Earth to fly through space a few times, though some cultures would rather celebrate New Years at different times. There is no "atheist calendar" because a lack of belief in a god has no impact on how calendars work.

I think the OP meant the years... for instance it has been 2014 years since the death (or was it birth?) of Jesus Christ.
The OP is flabbergasted at how anyone who calls themselves a militant atheist and despises religion could subscribe to such a calendar, I think he believes it's an incredible contradiction.
Or from what I can tell.

The years. In the Gregorian calendar, AD starts when Christ is born etc. (Actually it was 4AD but never mind)

No it's just a hypothesis.

Does it bother Christians that Jesus was born several yearsBCAD? Or that several of the days of the week and some months are named after gods from other religions?
