As previously announced, my plan is to start an Age Poll thread every five months. Early in each month, they would go like this:
- December 2011 (done)
- June-July 2012 (done)
- December 2012 (done)
- May 2013 (over-run by Bolden's thread)
- October 2013 (this one)
- March 2014
- August 2014
- January 2015
- June 2015
- November 2015
- April 2016
- September 2016
- February 2017
The forum polls only allow 10 categories. The poll will always displease someone (lumping them in with others they consider significantly older or younger), but I can't help that. 10 options to cover an age range of 40 or 50 years requires some compromise.
My plan has always been to fit the ten options to what is reasonably expected to be the age demographic (so a roughly equal number vote for each option) because this gets the information I think other users will be most interested in: average and median age, how many other posters are their own age, how many are near their age. It doesn't let posters in their 40's know how many other posters are in their 40's, but that's just tough luck.
The December results would justify making the 25-36 range a little narrower (at the expense of older posters, so now everyone 34+ would be lumped into one category, rather than 37+) and probably the 19-21 range too (at the expense of 22-24, which would become 21-24). But I decided not to do that, because it gives up direct comparison between polls taken at different times. I'm going with the exact same age ranges as the December 2012 poll.
The thread isn't limited by the capability of NS forum polls though. If you don't mind everyone knowing your age you can post it in the thread, and I'll make a graph using that information AND the poll information combined (see previous Age Poll threads).
If you post an age in the thread you should also vote in the poll (I assume posters do that, and your age post will be cancelled out in my graph if you don't also vote.) "Your age" is your age now, or if you have a birthday between Oct 4th and Oct 25, you can vote and/or post either the younger or the older age, whichever you prefer.
Graphs go here in the OP as I make them from time to time. Now go vote.
