So as long as I yell 'Traitor!' really loud you don't mind me pulling out your fingernails? Fun, I'm going to remember that.

I'll make sure for there to never be any reason for that particular label to be ascribed to me.

That's the fun part, there doesn't have to be! You shared a laugh once with someone with 'dissident' political beliefs, accidental or otherwise? Guess whose going to get 'disappeared' and is spending the rest of their life with a car battery attached to their balls? Do you have a sister? Maybe a wife or a girlfriend, or just a gal you're real sweet on? Yeah, I'm gonna send a few of my buddies to scoop her up and rape her. Maybe I'll make you watch? Why am I doing this? Because I'm Augusto Pinochet, and I'm a sick fuck. Thanks pal, my buddy 'o friend of mine. Try to smile extra wide and really bless me when your eyes are popping out of your skull because your head's in a vice.

It's not a joke. Chile probably has the highest quality of life out of the whole of Latin America. It's usually up there vying for top spot with Argentina.

Students are protesting of the over the top difficulties of getting an affordable higher education there.

That's a government issue which changes with each election. Like how governments here have introduced interest free student loans as political brownie points. The fact remains that Chile (and Argentina) are very highly developed countries when compared with their neighbours and the rest of Latin America. You only have to look at Chile's neighbours like Peru or Bolivia to see what I'm talking about.

The Chilean government has also gone full Erdogan/Khalifa lately to silence them.

They're not silencing them. The students were allowed to protest and demonstrate (as they did do so) and those that decided to commit acts of violence and vandalism against police were dealt with in an appropriate manner. Protesting doesn't give you the right to smash private and public property, vandalise shops and loot them.

Certainly a good point.

The bottomline is, Chile would not be nearly as developed as it is today without him.

too bad people who were entirely innocent, even of the grave crime of "having political opinions i don't like" also got tortured and murdered. i'm sure if you remain faithful to the party and the leader, nothing bad will happen to you. after all, when has that ever failed?

No, you see, it's just a bad transliteration. The Douche meant that with autarky (that is, because of the unjust sanctions enforced by the imperialist demoplutocracies, ofc) he was making trains running on locally-produced thyme.

Okay. America had to do what it had to do, if Allende had his way, Chile would have become Communist and export it to neighboring countries. Sooner of later, all of South America is now Communist. Yeah, real nice liberals.

Except the Soviets weren't even supportive of Allende... that really creates a problem in the belief that it had to be done to stop Soviet Communism.

There's also how Allende was very democratic and expanded voting rights. And no, I'm not a leftist. I'm just pointing out the nonsense in overthrowing a democratically elected socialist president supported by his people, to replace him with a murderous dictator, in the interests of protecting freedom. Somehow. When Allende wasn't even being backed or supported by the Soviets. McCarthyism is the only explanation.

Don't you know that the only accurate judge of freedom is how free the corporations are? As long as they're free, everyone's free, even if they can't vote or get machine-gunned for being at a peaceful protest.

Amassing over 28 million USD from a combination of tax evasion and embezzlement is certainly another sign of a noble leader. The more you know.
