From Euronews, it appears as if it was earlier this morning. Now it's 12.47 CET (11.47 CEST). So, some three hours and a half earlier.

http://www.euronews.com/2013/09/03/russ ... terranean/

Interfax news agency quoted a ministry spokesman as saying the launch was detected at 10:16 am Moscow time (08:16 CET) by an early warning radar station at Armavir, near the Black Sea, which is designed to detect missiles from Europe and Iran.

In that case surely we'd have further news of it by now. Perhaps the detection was a false alarm?

FOREX was reporting the article at 9am GMT exactly, hence why I made the "seventy five minutes" remark.

10:16am Moscow time would have been quarter past six in the morning GMT.

It's a false alarm. If it was three and a half hours ago, we would know a lot more and we would know if anything reached Syria.

Doesn't seem likely that the Russians would be so stupid as to raise a false alarm there, they have nothing to gain from it but revealing the capacity of their Caucasus-based radar, which goes against the fundamental doctrine of Russia, that is, maskirovka.

It's either a false flag by the Russians (launch a couple missiles, make everyone get the impression a Western country or Israel did it), a Western sub commander who went off his rocker (but in that case the missiles wouldn't have fallen short), France or America sending a message "we're ready to attack", or (extremely unlikely) Iran pulling a stunt - iirc they had a couple of subs in the Mediterranean some years ago, right? But firing ballistic missiles, that seems out of question for them.

The Russians said that the missiles came from the central Mediterranean. That's about Italy, isn't it? And Iran doesn't have any submarines that are capable of launching any missiles. And the Israelis are saying that they don't have any knowledge of any launch taking place whatsoever.

There's a gulf of difference between "ballistic trajectory" and "ballistic missile".

Surely Israeli radar coverage extends over most of Syria at the very least.

Well, duh, I was imagining it might have been the sea just off Syria.

So, where did it fall into the sea?

What a curious situation.
