Rhodesi wrote:No. All these silly arguments about it being the only way to maintain our influence on the global stage. The EU has no active (as opposed to passive, see the Euro Crisis) influence on the world stage, and if, god forbid, a united Europe ever was created and the UK was a part of it, we would have no real influence over that either.

I would have no problem with the EU if it were free trade association and only a free trade association. But it isn't one. It's a sad, hulking, bureacratic behemoth, which, whilst theoretically acting as a free trade association, is instead a protectionist cage, designed to fufil the mad dream of a United Europe.

Exactly.

Also, this whole idea that we can't trade with the EU while not being a member is a ridiculous idea. We need trade with Europe more than Europe needs trade with us, but Europe still needs trade with us to continue growing and getting out the economic mess it is in. Europe will want trade, even if they felt a bit bitter that we stood up for our national sovereignty.

Concerning the United Europe thing, the UK would never join. Considering a majority of us want to leave the EU as it is, I doubt very much that very many people would support a USE.

Yes but this isn't seen as 'colonialism' of course, but the will of the people, they are just british people that migrated to those certain areas. Not the 'original' people.

Congratulations....

Not just a gravedig after the thread's been inactive for two months, but an off-topic gravedig about the Falklands/Malvinas, when the thread was actually about Britain's role in the EU.

Meanwhile, Britanno has managed to vigorously agree with a nation that's ceased to exist.

Between the two of you, you manage to win this week's Medal For Not Paying Attention.
