29% of Americans support "Armed Rebellion"

Postby DogDoo 7 » Thu May 02, 2013 12:47 am

Three in 10 registered American voters believe an armed rebellion might be necessary in the next few years, according to the results of a staggering poll released Wednesday by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind.

The survey, aimed at measuring public attitudes toward gun issues, found that 29 percent of Americans agree with the statement, “In the next few years, an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect our liberties.” An additional five percent were unsure.

Eighteen percent of Democrats said an armed revolt “might be necessary,” as compared to 27 percent of independents and 44 percent of Republicans. Support levels were similar among males and females but higher among less educated voters.

This just in, a country has silly people in it.

Note the key things here: might and higher among less educated voters. Such a thing is to be expected.

Internet Tough Guy Syndrome, just over the phone, or whatever they used to conduct the poll.

It's quite easy to anonymously tell someone, "Hellz yeah! I'm gonna go Rambo on those Black Helicopters! 'MERICA!!". Something else entirely for Bubba Joe to leave his trailer and get shot the fuck up over his 'right' to have lots of shooty toys that reinforce his manhood.

Only 12% of Palestinians support "driving the Israeli Jews into the sea." This seems like a far more reasonable percentage of batshit insanity.

^ This. An armed resistance is foolish in this age. A hundred years ago, sure could have been possible. But with things the way it is, it would be impossible to do. While I tend to agree with the 29%, I think that going the route of MLK, would be the smarter course of action. No one paying taxes would send a clear message. :D

I am one of them to some degree, The government is completely incompetent and is weak. Politically I do not agree with how society is run and a new change of pace would be good in my opinion, Moderates are boring and believe to much in this compromise crap the only legitimate rulers should be Radicals who are completely and uncompromisingly for their ideas. I say I would support bringing this about. I say we stop following those damn philosophes like John lock and Rousseau and look back to history to the greats like Aristotle and Socrates, Darius I, Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus. We should look to emulate the glory of Rome, the Democracy of Athens, the Honor of Sparta. The main initiators of this revolution in my opinion should be Hopefully the Military for I believe the military should play a very major role in society For the Military is the people and the people are the military.

Yes, shitty third world dictatorships in the habit of carrying out executions, torture, and mass murder of their own people who have been used to fighting all of their lives.

Compare to America, with the largest and most technologically advanced military in the world, and a bunch of rednecks who feel their human rights are totally being violated because they can't get drunk and drive around town with a Howitzer in the back of their pickup.

On this, I would tend to agree.

The political perspectives of those nations are not complimentary. Each was a slaver nation. Democracy in Athens voted to murder Socrates. Sparta was highly militarized in order to maintain political and social domination over their slave population (so I'm curious what you mean by "honor").

The main initiators of this revolution in my opinion should be Hopefully the Military for I believe the military should play a very major role in society For the Military is the people and the people are the military.

Kill ratio between American service members and insurgents was pretty lopsided in favour of the Americans.

Would you like to compare casualty rates? Or the fact that, again, your talking about people who have been fighting most of their lives fighting either A. an outside invader, or B. a brutal, oppressive government, and comparing it to a bunch of fat, comfortable americans whining because the government says they can't play with certain kinds of toys.

For Americans, the Boston Marathon bombing was a national tragedy. For people in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Syria, that's a quiet morning.

Doesn't alter the lack of progress in Afghanistan or the stalemate Iraq languished under for so long.

I realize that each war is different. Unique. I'm not making absolute statements, here. I'm saying that, historically, asymmetric tactics have nullified technological superiority. And this is a lesson that should be kept in mind.
