Actually, unifying Korea isn't too bad of an idea if we can take care of the military and all of their guns they have pointed at Seoul. The divide is purely government based and has nothing to do with the people. Sure, you have people on either side who hate those on the other side of the border, but you'll always have those. Most North Koreans, from what I've read from people who have escaped, are kind of starting to realize that things aren't the best in their country. They don't give a shit about politics. They just want to have food on their tables consistently and to see their families again, and they don't care which Korean government provides it. If ROK troops are showing their faces in the patrolling of cities, the reunification would be one of the most painless reunifications. Even technologically, the South Korean government is going to want to get the north up to speed, and will put a lot of money into developing infrastructure there. There'd be a provisional government there for awhile, but they'd eventually become part of Korea again. Honestly, reunification is the best scenario.

I'm not here to nitpick you, because you have a point in what you're saying and I agree with it. The South Asia situation is very much like Ireland-North Ireland, but with more violence. I just wanted to educate people a bit on the Korea issue.

Even by the low standards of NSG's armchair border-shifters (including myself, very rarely), this is an unbelievably terrible idea.

Half a million people died when the Indo-Pakistani frontier was created during Partition, India and Pakistan have relations that could best be described as "shit", and Bangladesh fought a brutal war to gain independence from Pakistan, in which hundreds of thousands of civilians also died.

I'm in favor of a Universal Republic, and regional unity (EU, Unasur/Celac, your proposal, ...) can be steps towards it. But it all depends of the details, of course. EU is a typical example of a wonderful core idea (unifying Europe) but so badly implemented that at the end it does more harm than good.
