For New Yorkers, MTA services will be suspended from 7pm tonight so that the system can be secured from possible floods and the workers can get home safely.

It looks like that it's going to hit New Jersey.

Nothing of value will be lost.

This will probably be as bad as the last Hurricane that hit us in NYC. Just a few fallen branches, maybe 1 or 2 trees.

no the workers get to stay at their work sites for the entire emergency, then inspect and turn up the systems when it is over, and then we get to go home.

I think that's it...

Given that the news appears to be in full-on "guys this is going to be like The Day After Tomorrow" mode, it's probably going to be kinda crap. But aye try not to drown or anything, people who live in the general region. That would be a Bad Plan With Flaws.

Stop being worried about why mother nature doesn't work on your schedule, and be glad that she's giving you several days' advance warning. That's way more than victims of earthquakes, tornadoes, and flash floods get. [/person who has lived on the Gulf coast for years]

I have a 8000watt, you? Been looking into getting a Generac 10,000watt or 20,000 watt that runs on natural gas, and can also use propane if the natural gas does down.
Getting tired of having to get up to 50 gallons of gas, just to run the generator when the power goes out, and takes Entergy a week to restore power.

I currently don't have a generator. But during Katrina, my family evacuated from our home (near where the New Orleans airport is) to my aunt's home (halfway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans), and her husband had a generator. Not sure what kind, but it saved our asses.

Last night, the predicted path of Sandy went right over Buffalo; now, it looks like they're predicting it'll pass over Rochester. (I have a feeling that Buffalonians are all sighing, "Finally!").

All I can do is laugh. Maybe it'll hit that cold front and it'll get cold enough in Buffalo to snow sideways?

Only until Cat 3 and above. Cat 1 and below are what we on the Gulf coast consider 'front porch' weather. Cat 2 is when you need to take the celebration indoors. :p
