Atheists: Do you feel good about your beliefs?

Exactly... Atheists (in general) are probably more rational when it comes to religion (even that is questionable), trying to claim that they are more rational about everything is just ridiculous.

Yes, exactly. All human beings are irrational by nature. We're all wrong about all kinds of things- if we weren't, more of us would agree, but it seems no two people agree on everything. A person can train herself to think more rationally than she may have done naturally, & an atheist may be more likely to be such a person, but everybody fucks up sometime. The trick is to be aware of it, to be OK with being wrong sometimes, & stay humble- not easy!

Happy being an atheist? Let me put it this way.

My existence in this world is brief, unique and significant. I exist not as an immortal soul, but as a pattern of particles that have momentarily come together to be me. Every second that I am alive counts. I am not part of a plan, but a consequence of random circumstances and the only thing that can give meaning to my existence is me. If I do good, then I do it without expectation of punishment or reward, but out of a desire to do good. After I am gone, all that will have mattered is what I leave behind.

Yeah, I feel extremely good about it. Eternity is a terrifying concept, when you think about it.

I find it funny that (the typical depiction of) hell was left out of the original post.

What some people seem to be forgetting is that fear of being eternally tortured in the most agonizing ways possible has typically played a far bigger role than the idea of floating above clouds forever and singing praises to some egoistic sadist overlord.

As such, the lack of constant fear of being eternally tortured outweighs anything else.
