Rehabilitation

Postby The Multiversal Species Alliance » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:28 pm

I have a question for you: which do you think is more effective in regards to crime prevention and treatment and why, a system in which rehabilitation is stressed as in Norway, or, a system in which punishment is stressed as in the U.S. or the PRC?
In regards to RP,see my factbook:

A good justice system will have a decent mixture of both.

Rehabilitation is obviously better than just punishing people, if you disagree it's because you're a horrible person. Fact.

Incarceration in the US is a problem, not because we punish those who commit crimes, but because we have some many laws which result in people becoming imprisoned.

Personally, I prefer rehabilitation, but I feel punishment is the only way forward for any nation, as stressed by the DPRK...

I think punishment is more effective and cheap in the short run, but if you want to improve society overall in the long run you need to stress rehab. Then again, you could just kill all convicted felons. Bullets are cheaper than meals and housing, and it certainly improves the gene pool... and makes people really think about whether or not they want to go mug/kill someone.

What we think

Postby Kingdom Republic » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:36 pm

The kingdom republic has harsh punishments to people who commit felonies, if you commit a felony it puts you in the Military automatically for 15 months of service.

We believe if your willing to hurt your country and/or its people with a felony charge, we think you should help repair it by being in the military defending it while it heals.

Go ask the person teaching the class for some sources, please. Mention NSG, watch them quail.

IMO, it's much more important to deter future criminals from committing crimes through widespread knowledge of harsh punishment than it is to try and make criminals into good people. I mean, anyone can FAKE good behavior and get off on parole. How many of those guys do you think will actually become productive members of society? I'd say less than half of them, if I recall some figures I saw a few years ago on the subject. I'll try to find them and post 'em here, but until then I won't say any concrete number. Anyway, the point is, if they don't committ the crime in the first place, it saves the state a lot of trouble, time, and money; prevents crime; etcetera. There's no way to totally eliminate crime, but this is as close as you'll get.
