It's a herding dog, and they're strong as HELL. Let's put it this way, they can drag a 200+ pound man like it's a toy thing (seen it with my own two eyes). They're massively family friendly, even with newborns. They are highly protective, yet warming to guests after they check you out. Ours never had to bark because most people are afraid of her just by looking at her.

My cat knows I'm the one who knows how to operate the can opener and therefore the superior in the relationship. We treat each other as equals just as a sign of respect.

So your saying I should only feed my girlfriend canned food? Tis a good idea, but I'm afraid she knows how to feed herself.

Couldn't Jack Russell fall under Terrier and maybe free up space for the extremely popular Retriever (Golden, Lab or other type) or Rottweiler, or any kind of Shepherd (particularly the German Shephard)? My current dog, which I have found to be the smartest of any dog I have ever had, is a mix of four different breeds, as her parents were mutts too and none of them are on the poll, despite being pretty common breeds (Rottweiler, Labrador, Doberman, and German Shepherd). When the "Other" category and "None" (or in this case "Cat Person") are the only ones to achieve double digits in either the percents or numbers, it is a failure poll.
Wait an hour, and it will be now again

Can't blame a dog for bad trainers. I've had three in my life time, and none of them EVER ill-behaved. Unless they saw a squirrel, then if you're in their path then gtfo.

If I have to have a dog, then I want one with super powers, like a bloodhound or greyhound or one of those crazy border collies I saw at a blues show on a ranch that played fetch by one dog getting the stick and the other running it back relay style.

Well, I guess if I had to have a dog, I wouldn't get to pick. Like now, living with two cockapoos, with the most 8-year-old giggle inducing name I've heard. Little butt-waggers.

I agree. I don't think there's any bad dogs, just bad trainers. That probably comes from vollunteering at an animal rescue place.

nah, the dog had prior owners and then the dog was given to new people which tried to work with it.. it bit 3 people and had to be put down.

Amusing anecdote: My dog takes note of how sturdy your footwear is when he herds you; if you have sandals on he'll barely gum you but if you have boots on he will give you a solid bite.

He's 13 years old now so he doesn't try to herd people much anymore. At this point he's mostly content with laying on the porch and occasionally chasing deer out of the yard.

Austrilian cattle dog? Is that like an austrilian shepard? I have one of those, and I totaly agree that they will make you active. Mine used to run laps around our yard. He's been kinda sick lately and yet he still loves to play <3

Australian Cattle Dog

Their defining trait (besides their inherent hyperactivity) is their intelligence; it's probably the dingo in them.

My dog CAN be smart, or he can be really stupid, so:P He used to walk backwards to get out of our laudry room. And when he's chasing his ball he just plows into a wall without seeming to care, so I can see how your dog could be mor intelligence :P

You post a poll for best breeds and don't include the Corgi.

You'll need another training method. I suggest positive-reinforcement based around chocolate.
