Because what is or isn't natural is totally relevant to who should legally be allowed to get married.

Yes

I already answered that earlier by mentioning culture, religion and the requirement for reproduction. If there is any respect in you for social norms, religion or even nature you would be try and find a more acceptable approach than altering someone elses religious beliefs.
One persons freedom is always at the expense of another. There are these dam laws in this country of mine preventing me from saying "hi" to my neighbour with a baseball bat. All I want to do is have my freedom of expression so he looses his freedom of movement.

Who's altering anyone's religious beliefs? It would be nice if people grew out of them, but advocates of gay marriage do not propose anything of the sort. All we want are the same benefits and privileges and responsibilities that straight people get from being married. No more and no less. Civil rights are not finite: if I get ones that are currently denied me, that does not mean that someone else's rights are diminished.

I'm not trying to alter anyone's religious beliefs. I'm talking about the legal institution of marriage, that thing defined by laws, not religious beliefs. I don't even see any need to change that. Just allow people greater access to it.

But since it's natural(supposedly) for a man and a woman to enter into a legal relationship, as defined and recognised by their government, but not natural for a man and man or woman and woman to enter that same legal relationship, then obviously the law must not be changed, because the law is and has always been controlled by what is natural and somehow what people's religious beliefs are.

Dear gay people,

America doesn't like you. Let's face it. Just leave the country and come to Belgium.

We became the second country in the world to legally recognize same-sex marriage.
We have a fine free healthcare system for all, which is nice when you develop Aids.
We have a flurish fashion industry: Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, Marina Yee.
You can drive around in a VW Beetle or a Golf an no one will laugh with you.
We have excellent gay clubs and our city parks are famous around the world.

We have it all. American gay friends, just leave your weird country and come to Belgium.

No adrian, he didn't.

So? The States have the autonomy to regulate marriage, but the right for homosexual people to marry is still protected by the Constitution as a basic civil right, so all States should allow it.

Yes Adrian, he did.

If they "carry out the marriage" then they are, by definition, spouses until such time as they separate.

I think heterosexuals can't be trusted with the sanctity of marriage, particularly those folks who espouse "family values" while banging any chick or dude on the down low.

Seriously, I'm adamantly in favour of same-sex marriage. To quote Justice Anthony Kennedy, "a state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws." Nor can the United States.

No one is "altering someone elses religious beliefs", they are perfectly fine privately believing what-ever-the-fuck they want to believe, because while people have the right to religious belief, that right ceases to exist when it attempts to impose religiously based ideas into the civil law, because when you do that, guess what? You're using the force of law to "alter someone elses religious beleifs". This is something you're going to constantly falter on, because you know what? You don't give a flying fuck about "freedom of religion" or "religious liberty", it's a fucking excuse on your part... "Freedom of religion" and "religious liberty" would be grounds for NOT imposing such religious ideas into the civil law.

Yet conservative right-wing crybabies use "freedom of religion" as the knife they stick in people's back to hinder their civil rights.

No, the last time you were invaded was in the 1940s. And what are those 507 Belgian soldiers doing in Afghanistan?
