We're not fielding anyone spectacular, and I think Americans are addicted to presidents, damn good thing about that two-term limit, although maybe its starting to feel like a minimum. :?

I agree but you do realize that its not just Republicans who kow tow. Many Democrats from conservative districts also kow tow the religious fundies.

Yes, and I can't stand them either. Most of us who voted Democrat in 2008 hate the guts of the senators from New Mexico and West Virginia who smelled blood in the water and turned on the ideals they ran to support when they thought it was popular. I'm disgusted by hypocrisy on any level.

I support the Democrats because there is far, far less of it with them and they actually run effective governments when given power. Then Republicans manage to whip the idiots who support them into a frenzy and destroy everything the Democrats built, then turn around and blame the Democrats for that.

You are so right-on about that. Obama has done jackshit for gay rights, and don't think we haven't noticed. Not that it's all on the prez- but the admin in gen is basically not that diff than it was under Bush. And Nobody in power gives a fuck about the way the US mistreats prisoners of war.

I wouldn't say sad. I'd say it pisses me the fuck off. There's no real choice between the parties anymore.

Yeah its kinda disappointing. I agree with you on most that stuff, legalizing mary jane and pardons for those imprisoned because of it, I'm all for recognizing the legal status of gay marriages (although I'd prefer no marriages, w/e).

but I was thinkin more on local level when talking about voting...

Now you lost me ^_^'

Local things tend to be very different and based on the well, local polity.

yea I don't think the gov should be involved in marriage at all either- but as long as it already is, giving us the right to marry means our relationships are equal under the law, which is very important.

yea, you're right, local politics are different. I actually think they're much more important, tho. I just meant that when I vote Dem locally, it's moreso bc I live in Chicago and we don't have any real political parties...it's fucked. that's a whole 'nother story tho haha.

Basically what it boils down to is both parties are idiots, they're remarkably similar, and the whole thing is a farce. We need more libertarians!

Republicans and Democrats. It is my opinion that people choose sides far too casually. We argue Republican vs. Democrat because those are the two options? It would seem as though people would prefer to be thought of as smarter than that, yet all evidence points towards narrow mindedness and ignorance. Those who choose what I like to call an 'enlightened' point of view (one of balance and certain compromise) are often written off as naive or fence straddlers.

Truth be told I hate both Democrats and Republicans because they choose to be one or the other. The democracy in the United States (which I assume is where the OP is referencing) isn't even really a Democracy anymore. The concept behind politicians in a TRUE democracy (in other words, what it was meant to be literally and 'on paper') is that they are servants to the people. This applies especially to the President. Instead we have.... well this could go on for ages....

Anyways folks. Don't pick a side, simply stay true to what you believe. Think for yourself. If you want to wave a flag, wave the American Flag (since I refer solely to Americans), not the Elephant or Donkey wearing the red, white, and blue like a damned costume.

there is a group inside the repub party called the log cabin repubs who are gay and trying to change things. That's been really fuckin' successful, hasn't it?

nah I get where you're coming from but (a) I'm not interested personally in joining a political org to that degree at this time and (b) if I did, it would be a third party with a libertarian bent, because I think voters need more choices

in other words, instead of working to change, say, the Catholic church and make them atheist, I would rather just, y'know, be an atheist and not go to church at all!

I dislike both sides as well but were to gridlocked with the idea that you can only really have a chance with going by two parties dem or rep.

I hate Dems because: They are anti-capitalist to a degree, they side with illegal immigrants, they are apologists, they are anti-gun and more or less anti-freedom

I hate Reps because: They are to attached to religion, they preach about freedom yet are against gay marriage among other things

The way this was explained to me once, "When you're at a baseball game, that's what people are going to be talking about." Obvious, obviously. The "game in town" is what's going to be on people's lips, and in the U.S, conservatives are the game in town. Even when they're not in power politically, it's conservative ideas that are the driving force in American political discourse these days (and has been since Reagan, Nixon even) so it's conservatives - and Republicans by extention, that people are going to come out for or against.

If everybody hated Republicans, they wouldn't be the dominant party in America. But if people are going to hate "a party" it's most likely to be the Republicans because, well, they're the dominant party in America.

This basically. They make a lot of valid points, the problem is it's all bullshit to convince people to vote for them. They opposed the ACA and PPA giving reasons that, while I didn't agree with, I could understand. When they stepped up to the plate, however, the plan they submitted was a bill full of blank pages.

They hate people. Along with those other paleo-conservatives. Really, they literally hate people.

1. They support DADT.
2. They support the restriction of marriage.
3. They support taking the money away from health institutions (besides PP).
4. Rejected the DREAM act.
5. Made Homeland Security.
6. Cut fundings from education, health, welfare, and everything that is not defense.
7. Upholding Christian values while ignoring all other values.
