Wouldn't it be our civic duty to assume that he's innocent until proven otherwise?

no

thats the court's job not ours.

our job is to keep in mind that he hasnt been convicted of anything. he has only been arrested. and that, as i said above, it may turn out that he is innocent.

There's a chapter in the NY Penal code which lays out the Max. and Min. sentences for the different classes of felonies and misdemeanors, so you could work out a worst and base case scenario for each of the charges. Lots of other considerations come into play but it'll give a ball-park idea of how deep the shit he's in if convicted.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

Over 70 years I think. Total max, if convicted of all charges.

then why arent we talking about reptiloids and the illuminati?

if we are going to amuse ourselves we should go all the way lest someone think that we are seriously excusing the behavior of an alleged rapist.

Haha. Touche!

No, I'm really not excusing him tho'. I am completely on board with the rapist theory. Just given his position, and the IMFs nature and function, there are bound to be conspiracy theories.

And I guarantee, even if he is convicted on all counts, they won't go away. People will still say it's the CIA and Sarkozy, or something to do with Greece, or something else the IMF has done.

I mean, we can debate whether the IMF on net balance is a good thing or a bad thing, but even if we decide it's a good thing, you'd still have to concede that the way it operates has left a lot of bodies behind. Hell I even know a kiwi that fucking hates the IMF for what happened to NZ in the 80s, and that was relatively minor. So conspiracy theories are going to be rife.

With that said, clearly he's being punished by the reptile lizard Illuminati.

I don't know. He's the perfect candidate to be made an example of.

Also, it's important to note, that the lowest maximum sentence of any charge he is facing is only 3 months. And the highest 25 years (2 counts of that though).

I'm not sure. The allegations, if true, are very serious. Letting him skate on this may create more problems than it would solve.

if convicted i would really very much like him to get 25 to life. but it seems likely to me that he would rather make a deal and go home in disgrace instead of risking a stint in sing-sing.

Life is not a possibility in the strict sense. No single charge has that sentence. However, like I said the max is over 70 years. Of course for a 62 year old, 70 years is life.

But that might not be what the US wants, it'd be nice to show people that the rich and powerful don't always get off with a slap on the wrist...

At this level, not for rape. But presumably that's because rapists in those circles are uncommon (or if the tin is to be believed, it is all hushed up before the justice system acts).

But I can think of congressmen that have been given longish prison sentences. Just because he's the head of the IMF doesn't mean he can skate. And if it does, then I think allowing that will only further damage the government's already lacking credibility, and they know that.

And like Sib. says, he's the perfect to make and example of. The IMF head is more or less window dressing.

He's resigned now. So no longer the head of the IMF.

Also, as to him getting special treatment: Apparently his wife wanted to visit him yesterday, but wasn't allowed to, because Wednesday is A-L day on Rikers. She'll have to wait until today, which is M-Z.

He's also on the wing for HIV+ inmates. Apparently his victim lived in housing for HIV patients, so I guess that's the reason, though she apparently claims she was just sub-letting and isn't actually HIV+ herself.

At any rate, it is not looking good for him.

Yeah. Rikers is fucking horrible. You can't live here for any length of time without hearing the stories. And supposedly he's getting no special treatment. No bail either.

Oh yeah, according to the local news, he's on suicide watch.

More amusingly, educated high-class French left-wing intellectuals are serving up some classics.

http://www.economist.com/blogs/schumpet ... efs_arrest
According to Anthony Daniels, Mr de Miranda penned a piece for Libération under the title "a philosophical hero". Taking DSK's guilt for granted (which we should certainly not do), the author says that “we bet that in his depths Dominique Strauss-Kahn is joyful. Perhaps he doesn’t admit it to himself yet. But behaving thus at this point in his biography could only have been voluntary. I add that it is heroic.”

Why heroic? Because DSK engaged in a supreme act of self-sacrifice, apparently: “If the cleaning woman has been attacked, the woman worker had violence done to her, then we are touching on the sublime, in the Kantian sense...A political suicide rather than the death of an automaton or the possibility of a reign unleashed.”
“Every age and generation must be as free to act for itself in all cases as the age and generations which preceded it. The vanity and presumption of governing beyond the grave is the most ridiculous and insolent of all tyrannies. Man has no property in man; neither has any generation a property in the generations which are to follow.”

Except that a lot of America's debt problems appear to have been caused by tax cuts by a republican president and two wars started by that same president.

The annual deficits are based in the tax cut-wars-recession nexus, but the systemic budgetary problem, looking out the next couple of decades, is in the entitlement programs. We need massive social security and medicaid reforms as soon as possible, to really keep the country from going broke.

huh?

is he saying that DSK raped a maid so that he would get arrested and free us all from his continued control of the IMF and possible french presidency? a psychologically motivated attack that has left him happy because it frees him from that burden?
