Also, people will think twice before fucking with the Bush family now.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

back on topic...

Postby Vinlandian States » Sat Apr 16, 2011 2:06 am

Although I could not stand the man (I felt he appeared to be an ignorant bumbling fool), I will give him credit for a very few points:
1) He fully funded NASA and their space exploration, and pushed for a manned mission to Mars by 2020.
2) After 9/11, he had a few great episodes of leadership, where he united both sides of the country.
3) I must grudgingly admit the man took the abuse piled on him by comedians, et cetera, rather well and with a sense of humor.

Alas, that is not much in the positive for a man who was in the highest office of the land for eight solid years.

I feel his administration's reckless financial policies led us directly into the financial difficulties we are trying to dig ourselves back out of to this day, I feel he did great damage to American civil liberties with his disregard for constitutional freedoms, and way back in 1999 I had predicted that if he won the 2000 election, you could bet we would be at war with Iraq within a year of his taking office, because he had promised his daddy to take out Saddam.

Sadly, he did not prove me wrong.

His response to the criticism that the West as a whole was being too stingy and could afford to give more aid to the tsunami victims. Instead of pouting, he actually increased aid.

I was only wrong about the timing, though, and that's what really bothered me. And at that, we were at war within the year, as he declared the "war on terrorism" after 9/11:
On September 16, 2001, at Camp David, President George W. Bush used the phrase war on terror when he said, "This crusade - this war on terrorism - is going to take a while, [...] And the American people must be patient. I'm going to be patient. But I can assure the American people I am determined."
so I was not completely wrong.

...and he was apparently more determined to get Saddam, than to find Osama Bin Laden.

Yes. He did one, very good thing: something no one else can do. He made the most hilarious quotes.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."
"For every fatal shooting, there were roughly three non-fatal shootings. And, folks, this is unacceptable in America. It's just unacceptable. And we're going to do something about it."

Fact that he changes his mind so often is also damn funny.
