Look what followed me home today!

Postby Gun Manufacturers » Sat Apr 09, 2011 2:24 pm

So, often when a person first receives firearm training, they start off with some sort of rifle or pistol chambered in .22lr. Now, I personally started with the pistol permit course (where I fired everything from .22lr to .40 S&W out of revolvers and semi-autos), and the first firearm I purchased was an AR15. Well, today I purchased the firearm I should have bought first, a Ruger 10/22 (probably the most upgradeable .22lr in the market today).

Now, how many of you started out with this well regarded firearm (or another .22lr firearm), and how many of you started with something different? Also, do you still own the first firearm you ever owned (I do)? Do you think I should have bought a different .22lr? What's your opinion of the 10/22?

I look forward to your opinions, but please no flaming.

Now I'm for tighter gun control, these new guns are far too dangerous if they can float or walk to stalk people and follow them into their home :p

Started on some kind of .22lr revolver. All I know is that it was a S&W DA.

.22lr is pretty tame. Only thing less powerful would be like a pellet or a nerf gun.

I don't shoot, but I've been thinking about doing so sometime soon... maybe. I'd probably start with a 22 rifle.

Might not have been full auto. There are plenty of civilian sport versions out there. Failing that, I do believe .30-06 will function in an AK, though it'd most likely be a bit too high power to fire full auto anyway.

No, it won't. An AK-47 fires the 7.62x39mm cartridge, and the .30-06 is 7.62x63mm. It won't even chamber.

The first gun that I owned was a New Zealand Carbine. At the same time I purchased a single shot 12 gauge, I forget who the manufacturer was.

I started with a .45 pistol, and have fired shotguns and semi to full auto rifles.... Haven't had any interest in small arms, however, ever since I got to fire cruise missiles.

I started on 9mm Pistols (Specifically, a Browning Hi-Power). While I have fired long arms, I'm still much better with a nine-mil.

I would have preferred the wood stock (it was $30 cheaper than the one I got, but the one I got was all they had left). As to the 25 round banana magazine, this was the promo from the store (they still had some left over from Christmas): Image

Either way, it's a nice gun. No, this one place near where I live has a banana clip for $22.50. I just haven't gotten one yet. I'll probably pick it up after I'm done paying off my .30-06 >< and a couple of new suits I need to get.
