Seems it is the same submarine where the Captain was relieved of his command after it ran aground last year. Sounds like something is seriously wrong with the culture on board (is on board correct for a submarine?).
Are we there yet?

I think it is.
Maybe the man who fired the shocks was new on-board (panic attack of the compact spaces?) or he really didn't like them.

I'd ask how someone on-board a submarine got his hands on not only a weapon (which could presumably be for drill purposes given the dignitary) but also the ammunition which could of only resulted from sloppy safety drills on a firing range (not to rule out the use of blanks)

oh well nutters happen I wouldn't put it down to any culture hoo-hah more just the nature of the beast whereby with enough determination you can do quite a bit of damage

That is easy; we could've easily been on guard duties when the problem happened (but, do they even arm guards these days?).

Yeah, they are armed. Esp. subs that carry tomahawks for obvious reasons.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

I'm not sure about the Brits, but I know us Canadians occasionally give a pistol to those on manning the weather deck while we're in port; it's just in case some nutter tries to force his way on to the ship or starts threatening it while people are away.

I'm not sure about British vessels, but my understanding is that on US boats the senior enlisted man on duty carries a handgun for purposes of enforcing discipline (i.e. arresting submariners who have broken the law). There are also weapons lockers for use in boarding/antiboarding actions. Either case could be where the weapon came from.

Thankfully events like this in The British Armed Forces are rare. It's frustrating that we never hear the motives behind a lot of these incidents. Is this Submarine cursed?

It would have been great if those in charge at the time it ran aground used the "It wasn't my fault a gypsy put a curse on the thing" excuse.

Do gypsies often curse submarines? That would be quite a story.

This guy must have been nuts to shoot seaman all over his sub.
When anybody preaches disunity, tries to pit one of us against each other through class warfare, race hatred, or religious intolerance, you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom and destroy our very lives.

I'm purely speculating here, but it's possibly to do with the defence cuts.

They're going to be laying off a lot of personnel at the end of the year, including submarine crew. They have bills to pay and families to feed.

Nobody knows who is going to get fired, he wouldn't get hyped up if he didn't know he was going to. We are only in April mate, not December.

I was under the impression they were being informed now, I'm probably wrong though.

I would be amazed if they even know what is going to be exactly cut in their area.

I did a search to make sure I wasn't just imagining it, hehe. I believe I read about it here.

"Military commanders from the Army and Navy will inform serving members of the Armed Forces on Monday that they could be among more than 2,000 uniformed personnel to be made redundant in September."

This was published a week ago.

Things like this probably happen more often then we know. My father was in the Navy, after he found out one of his friends was a KKK member, him, the officer in charge, and 2 MPs confronted him, and he chased my father around the ship with an axe.
