The former Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt has been appointed lead Brexit negotiator for the European parliament, as the other 27 EU member states gear up for the complex negotiations ahead.
Any deal on Britain’s new relationship with the rest of the EU after Brexit will have to be ratified by the European parliament, and Verhofstadt, regarded as a diehard European, will represent the views of MEPs from across the EU. He said he was “honoured” to take on the role.

So the EU is already pulling out the big guns for this, and in particular this guy's already nailed his colours to the mast over the "no access to the single market without free movement" issue. Who do we have?

Well there are only three main figures that had a positive effect on the side they took in the Referendum. Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and yes in number three Donald J Trump. I'm trying not to laugh, but it's mighty hard when you realise Trump was a better weapon in the referendum than pretty much the entire remain side when dealing with major figures.

Open negotiations with waffles, and make sure not to call him French.

In a nutshell: Countries use the EU as a convenient way to access our markets; access that will be lost as things stand.

Why am I not surprised.
But that's enough Brexit discussion for me for one day. The absolute stupidity still haunts me.

It also seems kind of selfish that bankers are getting first dibs. Rather than, say, the large number of EU nationals that are propping up the NHS and stu...
Oh wait, this is the Conservatives. It's just another excuse to declare the NHS not fit for purpose and carve it off to the lowest bidder.

He said: “It is a British event and nothing to do with the EU - this is a pathetic attempt by the desperate 'Remoaners' to hijack a celebration of Britain.
“I will be handing out union flags personally. I don't know what they are trying to prove - we won! Brexit happened and nothing the IN side will do will change that.”
A message on the “Save Our Proms” campaign website, launched last night, said: “The Last Night of the Proms has been a bastion of British culture and identity for decades.
“Seeing activists try and hijack it to campaign for the EU reeks of desperation. They need to accept the result and move on."
It comes days after anti-Brexit campaigners launched their own campaign to hand out European flags at the Last Night, aimed at showing “solidarity with the EU” and using the event’s high profile to “send a message to the world”.
The movement was yesterday backed by the Musicians’ Union, which represents more than 90 per cent of members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra playing on the night.
In a statement, the union's general secretary John Smith said they hoped the waving of EU flags would “demonstrate solidarity with our European neighbours and remind government of the need to consider issues affecting musicians in the upcoming Brexit negotiations.”
Mr Banks told The Daily Telegraph he wanted Prommers to instead “wave the union flag with pride and throw away the star spangled banner of oppression by casting aside the illegitimate EU flag.”

No it's not a shock that the Guardian is pretending they pledged that figure.
