Republicanism is an alien, foreign concept forced on the people of Georgia by the USSR (not that Imperial Russia was much better in terms of its track record in Georgia). Monarchies have a demonstrably superior track record to republics in the region, although Georgia isn't technically part of the Middle-East by some definitions, and a constitutional monarchy would provide a framework of stability within which Georgian democracy could develop by counteracting the rise of powerful and corrupt politicians and the factionalism we see in other former Soviet and Middle-Eastern nations. Above all else, it would help Georgians to reconnect with their ancient history as an independent people and move past their long occupation by Russia. I'd give three cheers for the Bagrationi.
The main royal Bagrationi line is originally Armenian. The Georgian branch of the Armenian noble family of Bagratuni was enthroned as Bagrationi and became the reigning house in Georgia
Generally speaking, in that part of the world royal clans fighting for power ended up dividing the kingdom into several smaller kingdoms thus opening up the way for the Turks and Persians to invade.
