English IS a weird language. Kudos to you sir, you proved me wrong. And obviously it does seeing how you had to comment on it. And no offense but learn to debate more maturely. It would help to realize that not everybody is calling you wrong and they are just sharing their views. And perhaps you should read the full post before you speak. I claimed that it was besides of the point. I just gave my opinion. So next time you get all rude and seemingly irritable, consider that not every user on this site has bad intentions. Good day.

Sorry bout that, but do realize that this is a pretty damn hot button issue and after having to read some of the disgusting comments in this thread, I'm feeling less than charitable.

No problem. I understand that, this is definitely a debate that will easily cast aspersions etc. I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea or anything. I'm not that kind of person. I apologize as well for any wrong signals I may have sent.

Northern Dominus wrote:Because rape is rape whether it's a psychotic deviant physically doing it or a charity doing it through cutting of funds, or if it's the government backed by a propaganda machine doing it by passing wholly immoral and unconstitutional acts through state and federal legislatures?

Is that enough reason yet?

Wow. So a charity cutting funding to an organization with questionable practices (I'm talking about PP's questionable record on parental consent on underage girls and reporting actual rapes) is akin to rape? And all laws regarding the termination of a life (in some views) and oversight of abortion clinics is akin to rape?

How utterly insulting to those who have actually suffered from rape. This is the kind of equivalency that is complete bullshit and that is pushed by Democrats who can't stand on accomplishment and record. Disgusting and pitiful.

I don't know if there's a war under way yet, but conservatives certainly seem hell-bent on starting one, just like they seem hell-bent on creating class warfare with their support for the 1% and on starting a race war with their statements regarding the Trayvon Martin affair.

Despite the best efforts of us on the left to bring people together, conservatives seem to want to rip our social fabric apart at the seams by turning everyone against one another.

Can't really say that's solely a war on women, since it's a war on common sense and society in general.

Wait, what?

Holy shit. I thought it was just restrictions on second-trimester and third-trimester abortions and the removal of some minor stuff from women's job benefits.

Fuck. I'm completely ignorant on this, aren't I? Dammit.

There is nothing questionable about that stance. The girl's body is not owned by her parents. How they feel about her choices in these matters is totally irrelevant.

If parents want their daughters to not get abortions, instill that value in their children. It is not my, Planned Parenthood's, nor societies job to see that your child adheres to your values.

Maybe not a war, but on any given Saturday night there sure is lots of recon, flank and capture.

Appeals to right and wrong are a bad call, and largely ineffective.

How so? I understand your point, but many people are motivated to act politically when an issue bothers their conscience, and whichever side is more effective at demonstrating that they are on the 'right' side of an issue benefits accordingly from that. Relying entirely on an appeal to morality isn't the the best possible course of action, but there is a place for it in debate alongside other types of appeals.

Where and by whom? I don't know of single bill that stops people from getting either. Perhaps you should say that it is taxpayer money being used to pay for condoms and birth control which is under attack. And rightly so.

Because right and wrong are subjective, especially in something as messy as politics. Saying "Its right the right thing to do!" can quickly and easily be rebuffed simply by saying "No, I disagree."

Do you think the people on the right might believe that, in spite of their best efforts to keep society from disintegrating that the left is tearing it apart?

People can want what's best for their nation and have different views on what's needed.

They don't.

But if you were a Christian, you'd know that that doesn't matter, because those who want one still have a right to obtain one.
