How so? I understand your point, but many people are motivated to act politically when an issue bothers their conscience, and whichever side is more effective at demonstrating that they are on the 'right' side of an issue benefits accordingly from that. Relying entirely on an appeal to morality isn't the the best possible course of action, but there is a place for it in debate alongside other types of appeals.
