Was the Galactic Empire a good place to live?

This article convinced me that the Empire was a good place to live in, and much better for the whole of the galaxy than the Rebellion or Republic. For the purposes of this discussion, EU material is not included.

It doesn't seem so bad. Without the Senate there's less bureaucracy, most corporations were nationalized, there was a strong military. The only thing wrong with that is that Tarkin was never the Emperor. He would've made a great leader.

I'm talking about corruption in the sense of having to bribe officials to get things done, not corruption in the sense that special intrests controlled the legislature. Xenophobia still stands though.

Also the empire allowed slavery.

It brought stability to a Galaxy of turmoil and it developed technologies that benefited the Galactic Economy. The Galactic Empire was indeed very supported within the Core regions, Inner Regions, and Humanocentric Outer Rim worlds. Non-Humans were traitors during the Clone Wars, except Bothans.

If not, the stability of the Empire would certainly have been good for the economy, and I suppose the heavy-handed security measures probably kept crime down- I mean, except for the crime that was directly aimed at destroying the Empire.
