Golden Gate Bridge... Overrated?

According to Wikipedia, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is one of the USA's most famous and recognizable landmarks and structures. It is also a "marvel of engineering." Every year, millions of people travel to San Francisco and California to see the famous historical structure.

Does it stand up to the hype? Or is it overrated? If we look at the GG bridge objectively... Should we keep or revoke its status as a landmark and a modern wonder?

I think it's entirely overrated and it is over hyped beyond measure. When I looked at the bridge for the first time with my eyes, I thought two things and two things only.

1. It's red
2. It looks like a fucking bridge

Compared to a monument like Rome's colosseum or the Lincoln Memorial or the Louvre... What does the GG bridge have to offer? Absolutely nothing. The most striking thing about the bridge is its mundanity. It's not even the First ever bridge in the USA. Bridges are EVERYWhERE.

So what are your thoughts? Should the bridge retain its status as a landmark? Is it over-hyped? Thoughts?

The Golden Gate was for many years, and still remains a marvel of engineering capabilities. It symbolizes that not only can man overcome the obstacles presented by the environment, but that man can flaunt it by finishing the bridge with art deco trimmings for no other reason than because we fucking can.

At the time it was built, the Golden Gate Bridge was indeed an engineering marvel. Kinda like how the big dig was an incredible work of engineering.

If you bothered to read the second paragraph, you would know that it's a fucking long bridge. In fact, it was the longest of its kind until 1964.

Because I'll ride too high in the water and probably tip over if I came out of my armor. Not to mention being vulnerable to Confederate shells. Plus my armor is riveted to my sides and if you think ripping off a band-aid and pulling a few hairs out is painful, imagine how much worse it would be pulling off something that is literally riveted onto you.

The Golden Gate Bridge is amazing in the amount of pure condensed MEH it fits into a single span.

Engineers probably find it fascinating, but on a family trip to the city years ago, it was most notable for its redness not matching its name and because it actually got us all to agree on something. That something was what a huge letdown it was after all of the anticipation we had built up.
