The guy who ran down two Canadian soldiers was convert to islam. I am willing to bet that muslims are responsible for this attack. ISIS has convinced muslims across the world to commit acts of terrorism against countries that oppose ISIS. The Canadian parliament just voted to join the US led coalition against ISIS, so this is probably a reprisal for that.

No by probability. If Canada was going through a wave of violent incidences with Quebec separatists (ie like in the late 60's to early 70's) then you'd place your bet on a Quebec sovereignty group. Recently we've had threats levelled against Canada by ISIS, reports of radicalised Canadian Muslims going to or attempting to go to Syria to join ISIS, an incident yesterday involving Canadian soldiers and a radicalised Canadian Muslim and iirc the terrorism threat level had been raised back home. Also Canada recently voted to join the military intervention against ISIS and have been supporting groups like the Iraqi military and Peshmerga for some time. So probability goes to a radicalised Canadian Muslim, though there is also the chance it could be some dickheads doing it for who knows what reason.

Police report is coming up soon. Until than we won't really know who is the perpetrators. While, yes, there is no visible link or evidence of this attack (and the potentially linked shooting in a shopping centre) being the precursor to something bigger (obvious bogeyman is 9/11), it's better to have more planes in the air just in case a previously highly successful terrorist tactic is used again.

I live in the literal middle of nowhere and we had an incident of a youth with strong ties to ISIL stabbing a policeman, before being shot, about 20 min away, It can happen anywhere where there are disgruntled and impressionable people about. (Regardless of ethnicity, religion and gender)

As a Canadian, this stereotype fucking annoys me. It can happen anywhere. One of the worst school massacres was in Montreal (Ecole Polytechnic), we've had other types of bad events. Does it happen less frequently? Yes. But it's not something that doesn't happen at all.

Because there were only two and their both ceremonial in nature. They aren't meant to take on well armed shooters. So far the Police and Police Paramilitants have the city under control for the most part.
