Not unless you're looking at the porn for middle-aged women romance section.

Pulp fantasy also has its fair share of that sort of cover. Check out the top Google image results. I find it slightly more likely that this is what Zeinbrad is referring to.

Pulp sci-fi, on the other hand, has far fewer scantily-clad men but just as many scantily-clad women.

I've never understood that term, 'Pulp,'. I just think of orange pulp, and I know that orange pulp (isn't) fiction.

Poorer-quality magazines are/were made from regular wood pulp paper, as opposed to glossy paper. I have no idea whether glossy paper also contains wood pulp.

Paper is made from wood pulp, and poorer-quality paper, which is what "pulp fiction" is printed on, is less smooth/more pulpy.

That simple?

I am pretty sure glossy paper also has wood pulp, just with more processing and chemicals to give it the smooth texture and glossy finish.

Unless you're using hemp paper or something.

Saarthal wrote:Just wanted to share my ideas, given the novel I'm working on right now.

I'm currently writing a novel, a fictional story in which Islamic State militants invade a high school and take hostages. It takes place south of Seattle, near Tacoma, where there's several military installations within a 100 mile radius. Islamic State agents have infiltrated various government bureaus and agencies, and use information to attempt to take hostage several children of military personnel trying to eliminate the threat of ISIS in the Puget Sound area. The novel will point out the flaws of the American government in combating insurgency in the War on Terror, preventing the uprising of ISIS, the stereotype of all Muslims being terrorists, and as well as delving into what really happens in school shootings, especially if they are in the worst possible scenario, example being ISIS coming to your school.

The school is loosely based off of my own, characters are loosely based off of people I know personally, because of the relationships between the protagonist and characters are drawn upon actual events from my life, with the protagonist sharing similarities of myself I guess. It's mainly my number one priority right now, as I've invested a great deal of time and effort into it. My final goal when finished is to show it to my English teacher, who hopefully shits herself, and also have this girl I know that I like read it, and see if she makes any connections between certain things. I'd like for it to be published hopefully as well, but that's not a huge priority right now.

I have 32,647 words currently into the novel right now, 72 pages on Microsoft Word. I'm sure if it were published, it would come out different with page numbers. I've also been documenting and photographing my work, in case it is stolen or plagiarized, so I have evidence to back it up.

I approve. How can any nation be safe from terror when it is still being subjected to the terror of the English language?

So, I conducted yet another 50% rhyming density experiment. Unfortunately, the content has a bit of an "emo teen" vibe.
The milky clouds must drift with care
as silken shrouds on high,
to hide the mournful rift, for there
our pride has torn the sky.
Too late we learned - but now we know -
our hate has burned the void.
The moon will see its power slow,
and soon will be destroyed.

My best guess at the meaning is that it's about the ozone layer or something like that.

Don't bother.

There are some things about the story that are straining my willing suspension of disbelief, but even if you write beautifully and manage to pull it off, you still don't need to photograph your work.

Is it possible to publish a book with absolutely no romance? If so, are there any examples?

I will admit I do not writing about romance since I am asexual and have never been in a relationship.

I will make exceptions for romcoms though.

Depends on what you consider 'romance'. Brave New World had a lot of sex but no actual romance in the typical definition, but I really can't suggest taking ideas from BNW as it all worked uniquely within itself.

In a larger sense, a novel that features no romantic interactions/connections between people would probably have to have no or few people in it. And even that's not assured, as you could totally write a book about robots who fall in love but get shut down by their robot overlord for breaking protocol (REMIND ME OF THIS POST FOR THE NEXT SHORT STORY CONTEST PLEASE!), as strange as that sounds.

Many of the Discworld books don't feature romance at all (like Small Gods, for example).

It's uncommon, but I think that has less to do with romance being somehow necessary, and more to do with people seeing it as an easy way to get the reader invested in the story. Don't feel compelled to add romance if it doesn't interest you.

It depends on the subject. There are some great novels, like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, that don't have even a hint of Romance.
