Early Cannibal Corpse albums are pretty cool. Underoath, believe it or not, was at a point a blackened death metal band. Their first two albums were amazing. Look up the song "And I Dreamt of You". Though I never really got into them, Entombed. Don't forget Nihilist, though they were short lived.

Skinless, Baphomet, Disgorge, Dying Fetus, Behemoth and early Darkthrone make/made good death metal.

FFDP is barely even considered metal. They are one of those bands that is right on the line of heavy/alternative metal and hard rock.

Musically speaking, they are metal in a very watered down sense...one that is more hard rock than actual metal. The are right on the border, and it depends on which album and even which song we are talking about to properly define the band's genre.

Moving on, the vocalist has no range whatsoever...and his vocals aren't particularly outstanding or original. His unclean vocals are even worse and even less original. I have heard a lot of unclean vocals, from black metal to powerviolence, and FFDP's is one of the dullest I've heard...ever.

The guitarists don't seem to be anything special. Cheesy breakdowns and solos. This isn't to say that all breakdowns or solos are bad, but that FFDP doesn't do anything innovative or different with them. Everything they do with a guitar has been done by dozens of bands before them.

Onto lyrical value....rather, the lack there of.

Yeah....as I stated before, nothing special about these lyrics. Stereotypical, beyond cliche. There are a thousand band with the same lyrics and at least a dozen who do it better. If I wanted this style of "depressive but not really depressive more of just edgy...poppy my gf left me" lyrics, I'd rather listen to Bullet for My Valentine, since they are actually musically talented, did the whole edgy-poppy metal thing first and have a vocalist who screams in multiple different tones rather than one, ongoing...unchanging one.

Drumming. Their drummer isn't really anything special as well. Not much more to say, he's not terrible but not admirable.

All around, FFDP is a extremely mediocre and horribly unoriginal band from a musical standpoint. Again, there are bands who pull of this style so much better. FFDP just copied what all late 90s or early 2000s popular metalcore bands did, like Bullet, Atreyu, All That Remains...at best, they are a bunch of copycats who were too lazy to make up their own style.

They are a great band even if they never change their formula. Twilight of the Thunder God and With Oden On Our Side are probably the best albums.

They receive more hate than they deserve, though some of the criticism is legitimate. I like them, I consider them basically pop music in death metal form (this is actually how I consider most melodeath bands).
