Best unpopular movie?

Postby Abserdia » Tue Dec 30, 2014 1:49 pm

What do you think is the best unpopular movie out there?
By unpopular, I mean there isn't a big group of people screaming its names.
If it has good reviews but basically no fanbase, that is unpopular.

I've seen worse movies that Birdemic.

This one was actually pretty funny, just because it was so bad.

Gamera: Super Monster

Very underrated. Gets way too much hate, is very much so bad it's good (IMO, obviously). Enjoyed it much more than zigra

Very silly, gamera gets to fight all his enemies to date, and gamera commits a heroic sacrifice at the end. It's a great mashup of the previous movies.

Well, The Room has an ironic fanbase...

Erm... Beneath Hill 60? Did anybody ever watch that movie? I thought it was pretty good.

Troll 2 does not count as an unpopular movie in this case.
Because it has a very large cult following.
Just an FYI.

Considering the hate it's gotten from audiences, I'm guessing Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has no fanbase... I'll go ahead and say that one, since I really liked it.

I liked Coming Out, an old GDR movie that premiered just about at the exact moment the Berlin wall fell.

I honestly don't think it's very good, but I like it nevertheless.

Beside this, La Mauvaise Rencontre was pretty good. Too bad I can't find it anywhere, and I only saw it on TV5...

It garnered nearly $300,000 in the box office and has an average of around 7/10 on the ratings critic sites. That's not exactly what I'd call popular, maybe that's just me

I suppose "reviewed positively" is a better term. I wouldn't call it "unpopular" or generally disliked.

It has a very small fanbase, though. To give you an idea, the film's budget was 10 million dollars, it didn't even get a tenth of that back.

As a fan of all of the Paranormal Activity movies (seriously, check out the in-depth plot and how each movie references the rest)...

I rather like movies like Grave Encounters and As Above, So Below.
Like... movies shot through cameras the characters are holding and the whole environment goes crazy.
I especially like when movies like this get really trippy and nightmarish.

Wait- you hated a masterpiece like 2001: A Space Odyssey yet liked this horrible-money-grabbing-cheap-excuse-for-a-sequel-film?

Well, it is overshadowed by Modern Times and The Great Dictator, but I think The Gold Rush is even better than the other two. It is not known as it should.

But perhaps you mean "unpopular" in terms of audience-reaction? Like a film that I like but nobody else does? If so I'll go with Spider-Man 3. I mean, it is nearly as silly as the first two films. And maybe because I don't take this film seriously in the first place (Like nearly any superhero film) the weird parts never bothered me.
It's not like I say "WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THE GENIUS!!!!", I realize it is silly, but yet very enjoyable in my opinion.

Alien 3, i know like three other people who like it, near every alien series fan absolutely hates it but i really enjoyed it. I like the setting, i liked the alien design, i liked the supporting prison characters and all round thought it was a decent movie. Not as good as Alien or Aliens but not terrible.

You mean Alien Resurrection? The one with the weird ass white skinned hybrid... thing.. near the end?

Aliens was on a planet, Alien was on a star ship but had only one alien, and Alien Resurrection was on a Star ship as well but featured many aliens.
