Had second thoughts about a previous post, and decided to post this one instead:

About Applejack: What makes you people believe that AJ is incapable of lying?

Whenever I see Applejack tell a lie, it's not really for her own personal gain. For example, I highly doubt that AJ would blame somepony else for a crime she committed, that's outright maliciously dishonest, and really out character for her. However, whenever AJ does tell a lie, like in Leap Of Faith , she's doing it because she doesn't want to hurt the feelings of her family and/or friends, or crush their hopes, and dreams. So, whenever AJ lies, she's not doing it out of malice, but, out of 'kindness'. NOT that AJ is right to lie about the false tonic, it's just that she's not lying to benefit herself, or the Flim, Flam brothers, but as to not crush the hopes and dreams of her grandmother.

I think you people are confusing Honesty, with Truthfulness, even though that one cannot exist without the other.

Meh. You make a point. In fact NONE of the elements have fully lived up to their elements. All of them are capable of being whatever their element isn't. Fluttershy isn't always kind usually because of tough love or reform programs. Pinkie isn't always happy as we see her hit high bouts of depression. Rainbow isn't loyal all the time for instance when Cheese came to town. Rarity is generous however as a designer she can be pressured and stressed into not being so generous. Twilight.....her element isn't a .... I don't know.

"Something" would be getting run out of town because their cider was so terrible.
And it's a bad choice.
And that's what's stupid about the whole thing. They're being travelling salesponies instead of inventors when they'd get far more money from inventing things.
It's really not. "Flim flam" means a scam, swindle, deception, etc. It's as much a writer error for them to be snake oil salesmen as it is for Fluttershy not to be loud and assertive.
It really would be fraud to call fruit juice a painkiller, because it isn't. See: The moral of the episode about dangerous lies that make people feel better.

• The cider machine produced high quality cider, you do remember that the cider was bad because they wanted to produce more since the Mane 6 and Apples were winning right? That machine shouldn't have failed.
• It's their's to make, if you want to make a statement against them then I agree with you but it's what they wanted to do.
• Be that as it may, the brothers weren't characterized as frauds, their original cider machine worked, and they didn't actually do anything dishonest in the first episode. They were simply doing something that they knew would put the Apples out of business, it's not cheating it's simply being business minded. There was nothing under handed about it, they had the ability to produce good cider faster than the Apples, thus they used that ability.
• Applejack is known for her lies for other people's benefit, the episode moral justifies itself by giving a huge lie that was dangerous since Granny thought she was "young again", this is from the way it was advertised. Having it as a painkiller works since the placebo effect would still be in place, it should just be dirt cheap to be fair (however much it took to make plus a little).

Applejack's testimonial is, evidently. It's what convinced them that the tonic was A-OK in the first place. She's the Element of Honesty after all.
That's just a fruitless hypothetical, not evidence that the writers erred in any way. Of course Flim and Flam didn't appeal the accusation on a grounds of a lack of pure evidence. This is a kids show not a courtroom drama. There wasn't enough scheduled air time left for a twist like that, anyhow.

• I seriously doubt that, the crowd seemed more than eager to try the tonic during the initial presentation.
• It's not a fruitless hypothetical, if you fill run-time to the point that you have to cut something off then you're doing something wrong. I understand it's a kids' show but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake, I don't judge too harshly (I believe this episode got a 7.5 from me) but I won't leave an error ignored, it may not be a major issue for the genre but it still is room for improvement.
