About the only music I know from Turkey is 70's Turkish rock. I don't know any like, actual traditional music from there.

In general actually, I enjoy the sound of Middle Eastern languages when they're sung.

I'm not really aware of anyone using 'alternative rock' as a genre label at all over here, e.g. Foo Fighters = Rock, Linkin Park = Nu Metal (or they did, back in the day, might have changed now?), The Strokes = Garage Rock, The Black Keys = Blues Rock, Arctic Monkeys = Indie. According to the Wiki page, Alternative Rock encompasses BritPop - I can't think of anybody within the UK that would describe Blur, Oasis, Supergrass, etc. as alternative, so that seems a bit odd to me.

I agree with you nostalgic Turkish pop/rock is perhaps the best Turkish music, imo.

That's terrible news. I hope your family is able to heal and get through this hard time. I'm very close to my cousins and I know if anything happened to them, I'd be depressed for quite awhile...
