I think most people hate that pairing because they hate Flash Sentry. I don't know how he is like, but I heard he was bland.

Yeah, I think that is why. There are only two major stallions, Big Mac and Shining Armor, the other male ponies are somewhat obscure and not as developed. I'd say the most developed male characters are Spike and Discord, and they are not ponies.

It's more like we haven't seen any personality out of him.

That just means he needs a dose (perhaps a heavy one) of character development.

I don't think anybody who saw Agent Phil Coulson in the first Iron Man movie expected they'd be horrified by what happened to him in Avengers. Sure it took a few movies to flesh him out but now he is quite beloved by the Marvel Cinemaverse fandom, (not to mention being one of the main characters of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D)
