Sure, he tends to act subordinate to Amy. But generally a pushover? Hell no. The man punched the Doctor for God's sake.

I didn't say he wasn't a steel-balled badass. I just said he's pussywhipped.

No, Rory is just a pushover. Hence despite Amy being legally Amy Williams, the Doctor still calls them "The Ponds". He even calls Rory's dad Pond.

Interesting. But I don't think it was because Rory is Amy's puppet, but I think it may have had Gallifreyan roots.

In all seriousness, I enjoyed Curse of Peladon. Then again, I enjoy most of the stories. Andromeda (that character) definitely made me wince and do a double-take at first though. But it's a good story despite its special effects failings (the beast of Aggedor is also lackluster).

Calling a man a pushover and pussywhipped because he has his wife's name is pretty fucking sexist.

Is Rory too subordinate to Amy? Maybe. But how much of that is because he's a pushover and how much of that is a conscious, rational choice on his part?

But its been a while since I watched Rory and Amy's episodes so I don't have the best grasp of their relationship right now.

There's nothing to suggest that in the series. More likely it is the former because Amy also named their daughter Pond, although puppet is a little too strong a word for Rory's status in the relationship.

Sure they can. Any sex-based stereotyping could qualify as sexism.

Also, you implied that there is something wrong and weak about a man if he uses his wife's name, which in turn implies that the wife is supposed to take the man's name. Treating an arbitrary gender role as inherently superior. Which is sexism, at least to me.

In any case, Rory is a bad ass.

Huh. I just realized Malcolm Tucker and The Doctor both had Scottish sidekicks named Jamie...maybe Paul Higgins could play a McCrimmon descendant. Also named Jamie.

It's a sad state of affairs when the producer of EU Audios has produced more good portrayals of The Master than the current TV show.

Uh... hi?
I'm Kitty, and in-character, I'm Irving Braxiatel from the expanded DW universe.
Anyway, Doctor Who is one of my main passions and I suppose I just thought that this discussion was the best to join. *shrugs* Anyway, I love NewWho, Classic Who, the books, the audios, and the comics equally. My favorite Doctor's #7, but I happen to think that Peter Capaldi's pretty cool.

Welcome! We can always use more Who-themed nations.

I haven't gotten to the 7th Doctor yet. I started with NuWho just a year or two ago (clueless American) after stumbling across it on Netflix. I got really into it and after I caught up I pledged to watch every episode of Doctor Who in existence, in order. Started last summer with Unearthly Child, and I'm now halfway done with Tom Baker's era. Pertwee is my favorite classic doctor thus far though.

That's what I did, although here in Australia I think Doctor Who has always had a bigger presence, so to an extent I grew up watching it since it came back in 2005, but didn't really become a proper fan until Matt Smith's era. I did a marathon of the classics last year.
