I found love, but it's all slashed and torn.

Don't generalize.
Today's music isn't all bad, it's just a lot of the popular stuff.

Why not? Hip-hop is awesome!

For me, the mainstreaming of hip-hop has been the problem. When we had Public Enemy out with "Fight the Power" and some other really meaningful tunes, I had hope. Now, it seems like gangsta rap about sex and violence against women, or, sometimes, party-based hip hop is what dominates. Maybe that's just the mainstream. I know I like the European hip-hop of folks like Alpha Blondy, who almost goes reggae at times, even though my French is good but not fluent. So, it's not style, but a seeming substance problem. I even think Eminem has the talent, but, for the most part, I can't truck with the content.

Mostly. Underground rap isn't completely untouched by that, though, at least not to a shameful degree. And not all mainstream is that bad, as I think Kanye and maybe some others are

Or from clichéd terrible to Cluster F Bomb terrible. :)

(I actually like both the Beatles and Fatboy, but I prefer the Beatles' Revolver-Abbey Road run of albums to their early ones. And "Fucking in Heaven" is just fun for karaoke, especially the final part.)

Also, those lyrics aren't all that great.

By blinded i meant not seeing the wider variety of music. Most kids just listen to what's being played on the radio and the top hits and don't really just to look into the other genres like Jazz,classical,folk,rock,blues,etc......
