Well, it's good to give all genre's a try. Plus Dancehall is a very interesting culture and genre, but unfortunately has been somewhat tarnished by the Homophobic nonsense perpetuated by a lot of the artists. Nevertheless, the music itself is very intriguing

The Christian Dancehall artists don't sing homophobic lyrics (but most of them sound like crap), so it's kind of a matter of picking and choosing. Like 1 artist may sing a few homophobic songs, yet have other songs that are very intelligent. Basically you have to dig through the garbage to find the gold. But I can give you a list of some songs:

Songs by Mavado
In This World
Delilah
Starlight
Fly Again
Heart Beat
Born and Raised
Overcome
Dying
Changing Times
Settle Down
Star Bwoy (may have homophobia, but I don't remember)

Various Artists
Tamale - Mr.Vegas
Dancehall Takover, Ya Habibti, Need You - Million Stylez
Wipe Those Tears - Jah Vinci
I Can Feel Your Pain - Gyptian

I can give you a lot more, but too tired to list them all  . These are some good songs to start off with though. Just TG me if you want more.

Thanks, man! :D

Thought to give it a chance instead of dismissing it from the start, and it didn't work. (I honestly don't listen to dancehall ATM, but then again I don't listen to a lot of reggae either. Sometimes I chill with some dub, but other times I really wish reggae bands would play their songs faster and make them shorter...)

I mean, hey, I tried to listen to early gangsta rap too, because of its place in hip-hop's historical evolution. (The G-Funk stuff is just laughably bad. NWA have, like, three good songs, and they're the first three songs on Straight Outta Compton. Ice-T's good. Ice Cube between 1990-1992 is also good.)

Oh I hated Dancehall when I first started listening to it. Some of it I was like.......really? But it slowly grew on me with its awesome beat 8) . Dub is starting to grow on me.

Gangsta Rap is ok, not a huge fan of its current state though.

Yes, Dancehall is a genre. It's kinda like Hip-Hop where it's both a style of music and also a way of living.

my taste hasn't changed. it just keeps getting renamed by everyone else. i mean the continual balkanization of genres, which derive from or relate to it. consider tangarene dream the architype and you'll get the general idea, if i'm not the only one still alive who remembers listening to them in their own time.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

I started out only liking classical music but then I just kept pilling other genres on top, but then I only listen to certain bands. Basically I used to like classical music, but now I like bands like ABBA, Queen, the Beatles, A-ha, Eurythmics. I like people like Paul McCartney and David Bowie.

Personally I hate pop music because it has little to no artistic depth it sounds nice but that's it it has little to know story and in Rap particular case it just sounds like they are bragging about stuff. So maybe I am an asshole, I dont mind I get that a lot. I want something that when i listen there is actually a story, you cant do that in just 2 minutes. It doesn't even have to have lyrics I want It to tell me a story and have meaning to me, I want to hear the emotion coursing through their voice, modern music has little to no emotion just auto tune and stuff no depth. Also to elaborate on the point of meaning something to me, all rap talks about are sex, drugs, and women those things have little to no importance to me their about as important as a grain of sand for me, I want something that I can relate to. Also I hate dancing and such so those dance songs are completely useless for me.

So this has no artistic depth?

Also, let's play a game. I'll post a few rap lyrics, and you tell me what they have to do with drugs, or the objectification of women:

My enemies steady hatin waitin for me to take my last breath
No longer flesh, had peace and yet the rest consume and avenge my death
Served my stretch, did my best then it's back to the Lord who made me
All the rest of y'all can judge but it's only up to God to save me

Never was much of a romantic
I could never take the intimacy
And I know I've done damage
But the look in your eyes is killin' me
I guess you're at an advantage
'Cause you can blame me for everything
And I don't know how I'mma manage
If one day you just up and leave

Unsigned hype, front line aeronauts flurry
Zero dark thirty
Zero friends, minotaur fugly stepchild, evoke lunch jumped over plunging necklines
Up beside tongue-tied hungry enzymes
Devolved into mothmen munching textiles

If you look for storytelling and lyrical depth in music and you hate rap, the irony is palpable, not to mention pitiable.
