Basically the only problem I had with the finale is that it didn't say what happened to Kuvira. Other than that, frankly I enjoyed the final.

I liked everything but the ending... no closure for the Makorra fanboys.... at least Asami and Mako should have ended up back together.

For some reason I'm not that bummed out about Korra losing her connection to her past lives... I'm really not sure why... its just not striking me... and I loved it how Korra went all Luke Skywalker on Kuvira. The main antagonist turned out to be quite sympathetic overall... maybe even more so than Amon.

Zaheer is still my favorite villain in the series overall, if they do a graphic novel series of Korra I hope he makes a return, maybe somehow escapes from prison. Its weird, Korra used energybending quite frequently but she's never seemed to use it to take away anyone's bending... but I somewhat glad Zaheer kept his bending, it really added to his character and I love how he want all Hannibal Lector on Korra in Book 4.

Image

Not a fan of Korasami (I'm vainly hoping that their BFFs though its futile to cling on to that)..... I kind of wish the season just ignored romance all together, though either Makorra or Masami would have been nice, even if it was just teased...

How they managed to blow our minds with the narrative, the action, the animation, the humour and deliver a genuinely satisfying wrap-up to this whole series despite having their funding slashed and being relegated to the far corner of Nickelodeon space... is really, genuinely beyond me.

I started watching Avatar on a whim last year, and while it doesn't take much to hook somebody like me, I'm genuinely glad that I clung on for the ride from then on out.

They did all the things! I don't think I've felt this childishly happy for aaaages.

It speaks volumes about this series that they put in work here and there over oh-so-many episodes to bring some sort of closure to that plot/character arc.

Same-sex pairings aren't particularly my cup of tea, but I'm okay with it. :P The way they handled it was subtle and didn't break character for anyone. Definitely think Korra's more in the bisexual area of the scale though... which, if you really think about it, makes a lot of sense for the Avatar, given that previous incarnations aren't all the same gender anyway. So looking at it from the reincarnation angle, the idea that the Avatar could swing both ways isn't particularly outlandish.

I still think that the only reason we didn't have an on-screen kiss/outright established same-sex pairing was probably executive meddling or just not being able to get THAT past the censors because of stupid double standards. Suuuuure, you can have a hetero couple play some tonsil hockey on a kids show without bumping the rating; but somehow having a same-sex couple doing the same thing is less kid-appropriate? :eyebrow:

I think everyone can figure out my thoughts on this by looking slightly to the left of my post. :p
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

Oh yeah, one last slight disappointment. The lack of Fire Nation was kind of a downer. I don't even know why they included Firelord Izumi. I guess because they didn't have enough time to explore the Fire Nation, so they wanted to give us something.

It was no Sozin's Comet, but that was an amazing finale.
I liked the fact that Korra never actually beat Kuvira. Their big showdown ended in a draw when Mako blew up the giant mech. I didn't see that coming. I thought the hero would have to beat the villain on her own. But instead Korra managed to talk Kuvira down. It's fitting that the Avatar who always tried to solve problems by force would ultimately win by talking.

I don't remember Su and Lin being in any of the final scenes. Did they ever show up again after being thrown into that building?

I wouldn't really mind another same sex pairing, but not Korrasami. It just seems too weird. And not because of the same sex relationship, I'm fine with that. But I just feel Korra and Mako were a better pair, and don't really feel "Korrasami".

So very happy about the ending, and the show in general. There were a few missteps to be sure, but it was a fantastic series and we may never see another quite like it, at least for some time. Bryan and Mike did the viewers proud and while Nickelodeon doesn't deserve their good work after all they put them through, I'll be sure to check out whatever they put out next, whether it's there or some other network.
