Sometimes a lot of repetition helps the music. If it switches too much it gets to antsy.

I'm in band, I play 4 instruments. In symphonic band I play Bass clarinet. I understand repition, but if I kept doing that for the whole 5-7min piece their would be no "color".

So, you're saying black and white photography is worse than colour photography?

no i'm not. i'm saying that if all the low brass and reeds played the same rythem over and over, it would be boring as hell, maybe more than hell.

Oh yes they are, have you not heard Echoes? There's 5 or six minutes of bass'y, surly riffing in the middle and it's absolutely fantastic - not to mention One of These Days which repeats the same riff nearly the whole song. I COULD GO ON.

There are entire genres of music that beg to differ.

I have a question, have you ever played in an improv group? Have you ever experienced that magical moment where you get so locked in to the groove that you and your friends will jam on the same thing for hours? If the chemistry's right, stuff like that happens all the time

1. If you mean Jazz band than yes I have been in that and well, I quite because apparently i can't swing when clearly i can but two bone heads won't stop so i stopped and now they have one less tenor.
2. I meant not one whole piece. Just a repetitive part. Like sixteenth notes for the whole piece.
3. i know that some groups do do that, but the ones I listen to don't.
4.besides, If it repeates over and over and oer, their has to be someway to make it seem like it's not.

1. Jazz is not the only setting for improv.
2. You can still find ways to make sixteenths interesting, even if it's a basic rhythm or melody.
3. Well, you're missing out.
4. You just make it more interesting. Change the accents, mess with the melody a little, solo over a theme, the possibilities are endless.

Getting back on topic....

I'm usually a classical, march and soundtrack person. Though I also listen to classic rock, country and (sometimes) electronica (Daft Punk anyone?).

I learned to love those genres, through playing in the band in high school, the alto saxophone to be more specific. I also learned to love those genres through hearing them in movies, games and TV series.

I'll post an example in a bit.

If he did then he should know that you don't need a last.fm to be on here.

Boys Like Girls is more obscure than All Time Low?

That's weird. Apparently Justin Bieber's obscurity rating is also 44.4%.

Which is why I'm skeptical on that obscurometer, since it only calculates popularity based on data from last.fm, which I don't use.

Most people who like music enough to use last.fm like music enough to know justin bieber sucks.

Unity; a gathering of open wounds,
of dark... of dark clean spirits...
what a dream... what a dream so distant!
Why should I... why should I be alone

No. All I'm saying is that most of the people on last.fm don't frequently listen to Top 40 bubblegum pop.

Wow according to obscurometer, Justin Bieber is more obscure than Sepultura. I find this funny.

The wordage here can imply that those who don't use last.fm don't like music enough. Now I see what you're saying. Although it's a stretch.

The only point I intended to make is that the average last.fm user is more serious about music than the average person. The casual top 40 fan typically does not like music enough to bother with scrobbling. Apologies if the way I worded it implied somethinge else. I've only had a last.fm for 7 months myself.

No hard feelings. I really don't care at all about last.fm, which is probably why I'm quick to voice my indifference towards or challenge it whenever it's brought up.
