Blerg, I used to have a scoring sheet for IB English for literary criticism. Now I can't find it.

I think CM's scoring system is a bit confusing, but I think I can fix it. The description of the setting should be the same as 25 or at least 20. Creativity is vague, so eliminate that category. Spelling is included with grammar. Everything else should be fine.

Flooded subway, that way there's room to move around. And the basic premise is a zompie/vampire/creature apocalypse, with some I Am Legend similarities I won't reveal.

Why couldn't that be part of the plot category? Or the setting. Or the characters. It's vague.

Setting IS worth 20 in the last one. I set out four proposals. I also don't see how creativity is vague.

Well, I was going by this one:

Characters - 25
Plot - 25
Setting - 15
Creativity - 15
Style - 15
Grammar - 5

As for creativity, well, why couldn't you be creative with the plot/setting/characters/style? I mean, if someone were creative with one aspect of their story and not with another, it seems that it would hurt their creativity and that would be unfair.

I suppose it could mean general creativity/originality which can be easily observed...

What else other than the plot/setting/characters/style could one be creative with?

Could they send it via envelope instead of post? (Or perhaps, by post instead of post? :p )

If someone were to be creative in one aspect of their story and not another, then that reflects a very real weakness of the story. If it's still well-executed, then one shouldn't take away from the character score, or the plot score, or the setting score, as that would be unfair, much in the way that you object to taking away from the creativity score. If, however, a story lacks originality (Not necessarily plagiarism, mind, just unoriginal), then it can come off as trite in parts without necessarily reflecting a weakness in any of the other scoring areas.

I'd like to see someone here making a new trope for each of those category. That I think would be creative.

Well, alright I guess we can do that. I wanted to go a little easier on the contestants, but it is up to the other judges.

By the way, are there going to be prizes for the winners? :P
