If you go to Mama Dolces in Arlington, you find a bunch of Chinese operatives who have been ghoulified and apparently don't know that it's been 200 years since the world ended. You can also find a pre-war radio broadcast of Chinese propaganda being broadcast from there.

How'd they get there?

That idea came from the script of the Fallout film
neither China, India, nor North Korea launched the first bomb. It was in fact Vault-Tec's executive of the vaults. He launched the first bomb to fulfill his own prophecy of nuclear annihilation.

That is extremely corny and cliche.

And... why India and North Korea? Why not the United States and the Soviet Union, countries that make sense according to Fallout lore? I guess they didn't want to vilify the U.S., which is stupid.

The war more than likely started in the South Pacific, more than likely with the first shots by the US, but insitgated by the Chinese if we are to use IRL as an example.

The Chinese, lacking any kind of serious surface fleet, couldn't sail into the open Pacific, it'd be torn to shreds by the massive USN, the largest blue water fleet in the world. Instead they land troops in Alaska to get the oil fields, use Canadian dissident to cue a major uprising, and to try to demoralize the American public and bring the US to the negotiation table due to the Chinese reliance on gasoline.

However the US is also more than likely committing itself, i.e. the USMC and the USN, to an island hopping campaign to remove any Chinese in the South Pacific, which is why the US invaded so quickly. They probably hopped from the Philippines or Taiwan into South China or Vietnam.

I just had this dim memory of some character musing that "perhaps sophisticated AI defense network(s) triggered the war out of boredom" in 2.

...the institute is like a thousand feet underground, and is almost entirely sealed off.
The only way you could reach it from the outside is if you dug in such a specific location that you reached the tunnel in the upper corner of the facility, but again you'd literally have to dig through a thousand feet of dirt.

Does the ash/goo piles on Fallout 3 and New Vegas ever go away?

I'm kind of sad that the Institute didn't have their own giant robot, and that the end quest didn't involve a giant robot fight.

Some do some don't and now in FO4 you got bodies that don't go away and the gear re spawns on some of them be it you strip them naked or not.

You can't you need, fast ravel to get into the institute.

Now that got to suck for those who like to play like that.

Wonder how Gopher going to get around that

It fits them thematically, though. They're a a bunch of scientists focused on one goal without anyone really pragmatic to put their expertise into something useful or fun. If it isn't a "better" human grown in a lab, it isn't worth doing, like comparing their weapons to literally anything else in the game and realizing they suck. A tire iron is more dangerous than those blue flashlights, literally.

Maybe Bioscience could've taken their synth gorilla projects and mixed it with some Behemoth samples from the FEV lab for a Behemoth Kong, but that would only happen in a mod.

I dunno, I just feel like the Institute was really under utilized. They never really seemed like a credible threat.

Speaking of under utilized, the Minutemen barely felt present.

I know, I was hoping for something really diabolical or horrifying like what Vault-Tec got up to with a lot of its failed vaults that showed an absolute disregard for human life and the future of the world in the name of some useless social experiment. A settlement with a synth infiltrator slowly killing off important members to drive the people apart, or a part of the Institute base where they keep the people they replace before using them as test subjects. The efforts to make the group appealing enough for players to join probably dampened how evil they could've been.

There was a bit of a missed opportunity with the BOS, too. Given their human purist rhetoric, I thought a few might show up harassing ghouls or suspected synths, invoking the specter of anti-insurgent tactics and racism. Might've been a little too real for the game, though.

Corpses that don't disappear are irritating. I mean you should at least be able to remove them in your settlements. The Island is now littered with corpses that I have to kinda pretend aren't there.
