Why... why did you make the same post three minutes after you originally made it?

Sorry. My computer went insane! I also found out that you can go back to Minecraft Alpha and Beta with the Tardis.

We need a new companion.

Not necessarily that Clara needs to leave - unlike some, I liked her role in this series, reflecting a sort of Ace-Seven type thing with the shifted point-of-view and lack of trust - but that I want a new companion. I know everything about Clara, and so does the Doctor. Something new should come in and shake things up.

Like - as we've discussed before - the return of Jamie McCrimmon, for instance.
"Then I was fertilized and grew wise;
From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."

She is like Ace.

She started out fun and awesome, but eventually devolved into an insufferable whiner and wuss.

It would be nice to have a non-contemporary companion.

Perhaps someone who's not even from Britain. A Norseman perhaps.

Negatory, all that would bring to the show is an accent from across the Atlantic. No point in having an American for the sake of having an American.

What about a Civil War-era American?

I find that period fascinating, and seeing someone from that long ago try to deal with modern and futuristic stuff would be interesting. At the same time, they'd probably be more able to cope than someone from, say, 500 years ago. The Civil War was around the time that the Theory of Evolution and the Industrial Revolution entered the world. It was a taste of modern warfare at the dawn of the modern age.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.
