Yes, but I would rather someone tell me.

I do. The Flood infected prehistoric humanity (who dropped the ball and let it spread) and attacked the Forerunners, who completely dropped the ball (again) in their arrogance and let the Flood breach quarantine and run rampant across the galaxy, then in a desperate attempt to destroy the Flood activated the Halo arrays, which killed all unshielded life (which included all the Covenant races, humanity, and strangely enough, the Flood, but even stranger still, no Forerunners, with the so far exception of the Diadict.).

When the Flood managed to attack and consume Forerunner worlds Humanity jumped into to sterilize the threat, the Forerunners not knowing the issue got pissed and started kicking their ass. Humanity sent a biological WMD into their blood and fed half of the population to the Flood which then apparently died (they didn't, they decided to test the Forerunners instead.) And the Forerunners eventually sent humanity back to Earth as a devolved species and the San 'Shyuum were on their own world but in a DMZ. By the time the Flood attacked the Forerunners easily stopped it for years but were being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers, by the time Mendicant Bias went to combat the Gravemind the Flood had enough forces to amass an invasion. Eventually the Gravemind would turn Mendicant Bias to his side and Mendicant basically let all the doors open, soon the Forerunners were forced to combat the Flood with Offensive Bias engaging in a battle with the Flood under the control of Mendicant. Eventually Bornstellar Didact had to activate the Halos.
There is much more to it, but the Forerunners were not at fault, unless believing the Gravemind couldn't take over A.I is something to note.

Palpatine and one grand admiral who was also one of his Darkside Elite were both fairly skilled at it.
Several people after them picked up the secret.

... All of that is just the Forerunners dropping one ball after another. For instance, if they were so strong why didn't they easily pummel the Flood before they got the chance to turn Bias?
And why are the Flood (and all the other races) still around but the Forerunners not (with the so far exception of the Didact)? Why is it that the Haloes only managed to kill off the Forerunners but no one else?

Its an awesome game for those times you feel like tearing people's throats out and showering in the fountain of blood, when you feel like hearing the crunch of your enemies bones and see them scream, when you feel like blowing shit up into a giant fireball and when you feel like turning paradise into a blood soaked battlefield. It's violent, It's gory and It's war on steroids.

The ability to use the Life force of his very subjects to keep himself alives and increase his power.
He used an entire Planet of billions for that Method, It kept him all but Immortal and increasingly more and more powerful.
The ability to create and control a force storm? Insanely impressive, The ability to duel five jedi master's and kill four of them in a matter of moments? Again impressive but nothing compared to that one trick.
