What began at the end of 2015 as a fairly routine inappropriate content report turned into a massive, multi-month investigation into players using Nationstates for erotic roleplay. The site rules specifically state that obscene content is not allowed, and that the site is restricted to a PG-13 level.
This includes player telegrams.
Although moderation does not make a habit of looking through player TGs to actively search for such material, when we come across it while investigating something else, we cannot simply ignore it and turn a blind eye. Especially when several of the participants are either underage or potentially courting underage players, roleplaying out graphic erotic situations involving underage characters, and so on. Thanks to this investigation, I now have far more insight and information than I ever needed or wanted to know regarding, among other things: My Little Pony cybersex, various non-heteronormative kinks and fetishes, Tokyo Ghoul cybersex, a colorful assortment of incest fetishes, furry porn, and scaly porn. Probably other flavors of badly-written cybersexing as well; I have had to read a lot of erotic RP telegrams in the past four months and it does all start to run together into one giant mass of penises, vaginas, breasts, tentacles, dildos, bodily fluids and so on.
This is not acceptable. This has never been acceptable. This will never be acceptable.
As such, here's the summary of the aforementioned nuclear mod wrath:
The following are Delete-On-Sight due to the sheer volume/varieties of cybersexing that they were caught at coupled with prior warning histories:
-Loving Embrace
-The Lovers
-Atrulia
-Inayen/Parafu
-Heavenly underlings
-Ravenflight
-Psycentric
-Lingria
-Colonial Rhodesia
-Korona Alliance
The following have had their nations puppetswept for excessive cybersexing, and a 6-month ban on using telegrams with any new puppets (note that attempting to use puppets to evade the ban will result in the deletion of all new nations and a likely upgrade to DOS status):
-Neema
-The Flame Dawn
-New Strausberg
-Chaos Crescent
The following nations are deleted for at least one instance of obscene telegram content, and a 6-month ban on using telegrams with their other nations (note that attempting to use puppets to evade the ban will result in the deletion of all new nations and a likely upgrade to DOS status):
-Illan
-The United Eastern States of Europe
-TotallyNotEvilLand
-Xanama
-The Carlisle
-Carcharhinidae primari
-Mirakai
-The New Russo-Serbian Conglomerate
-The Germanian states
-New Aksarben
-Videssos
-Crumlark
-Skyline United
-Derpopoliss
-Kazarstan
-Nexusaru
-Nation Truth
-Blood and insanity
-Scamvidia
-Ulvenes
-Bogs Bunny
-Ssotab
Nationstates is a political simulator, not a hookup site for horny teenagers and adults who have nothing better to do than engage in badly written pornography. If that's all you're here for, leave immediately.

Deletion instead of a warning, which I think would be a measured response and done privately for those who were first-time offenders, is a bit harsh. I mean, it's stated that those who were DoSed were given some previous warning to stop. They had the worst infractions and were given warnings. Why weren't those who committed "at least one" inappropriate TG given one as well before they were deleted? Why weren't they also given an opportunity to prove that they can be upstanding members of NS?
Isn't there also an appeals process where these people can explain their actions, apologize, and promise to never repeat again or were apparently these single telegrams so bad that they warranted a forum-wide public shaming on top of deletion?
That isn't to say that the mods aren't to be appreciated for their hard and dedicated work over the past few months with the best intentions for NS in mind. For those that have been warned previously about ERP but continued anyways, I can't offer any defense. The moderators took the time to notify them personally that what they were doing was inappropriate on the site and they persisted anyways. There's no justification for continued actions like that once they've been pointed out to you by an authority.
Considering I was only involved in one instance of E-RPing on this site a few months ago, I agree that some form of punishment other than outright deletion should be done in this case. I've learnt that engaging in such activities is bound to cause trouble, and that NS isn't the place to do such things, even in TGs/private messages. I've also learnt that succumbing to the suggestions of others to engage in such activities, as I had that time, is wrong.
Needless to say, I don't want to loose something that I've spent five years of my life on just like that, including thousands of drafts for various RPs, characters and all manner of other things I had saved on that account.

Honestly Vid I was completely surprised to find your name and a few others up there as well. I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your characters and all the drafts, man. Did you save any of them in notes, word, or google docs hopefully? With any luck possibly the Internet Archive?
I would say look into maybe filing an appeal to see if you can get your nation back although I don't know if you'll be able to get a moderator, or a second one if you wish for a second opinion, that wouldn't have been involved in the case potentially.

Anyway, don't ya think a DEAT and 6-month telegram ban is a bit excessive for a single case?

Then why comment on it, they broke the rules, they were punished for it. Considering so many well known forum posters were deleted, it was necessary for the mods to put this out here before GHRs and the forums were spammed.

I had it coming. I knew that doing this might eventually come back to haunt me. I did transition offsite, but I guess the past caught up to me
I do think the 6 month TG ban is a bit harsh though. Speaking of that, is there any kind of notification for me when the 6 months is up? Or do I need to keep track of it myself?

Can't say I know; you could inquire in Moderation, or swinging a GHR will probably get you told how much longer you're banned, if you ask. I'd just track it yourself, and ask once for confirmation after you think the ban has expired.
