[question] region script

Postby Liberonscien » Thu May 28, 2015 2:43 pm

Is it legal to create a script that changes the password to a region?
It occurred to me that if it was, it could be useful.

I believe that would violate the "one action = one click" rule regarding scripts, and if not that, then the "must not change something in the game world outside of the player's nation" part.

Aww.

I thought it would be perfect.

Wait, I thought it was, it is acceptable as long as it only impacts nations you control?

I'm pretty sure Afforees got DEAT for trying to create a script that breaks region passwords.

Even if you didn't it intend for such use, it would be used in R/D, and TBH, kind of constitutes as hacking, as that's basically what the script is doing, either brute forcing or decrypting the password. You could say "It has to be a nation you own, and it has to be in that region!" but realize, raiders often employ spy nations in regions. Meaning this would be very very easily abused, even if it was created in a such way that the mods would not at first oppose it.

It seems useful, sure, until you realize just how much potential for abuse there is. There's alot. Really, a lot. Such a script would render passwords for regions who want to stay out of R/D completely irrelevant, and only as strong as the Founder/Delegates will to give it to a new nation he/she thinks they can trust.

It's all answered in the Script Rules. Changing a region password is causing something in the gameworld to change that is not your nation. Therefore a script can't automatically do that.

It isn't intended to break passwords, only change them.
Whatever. Mods say no. So that's that.
